hello, i have never posted here befor but have read all the threads since i found a pregnant stray at my back door. the kittens turned 6 weeks old yesterday and are all healthy. the question i have is that i have never heard them purr. they always seem happy and love to play. is it normal for them to not purr?

*grin* Yes, it is normal -- in some kittens when they are young, the mechanism that allows them to purr isn't fully developed. But once they realize they CAN purr, the sound is like music to your ears. Listen for it in about 2 to 3 weeks.

I might add to that as well that some kitties do purr but it is so low. My chucky, Max and Jeanie purr even at the age they are now but you can bearly hear it. Its very very low. Now Ive could break your ear drum its so load and the other cats are fearly normal. My mom's cat is the same way.. You can bearly hear her cat purr at all. I wonder why that is ?

I am glad to read this. I was beginning to believe that the four I am fostering were broken! They are eight weeks old and I have only heard a little rumble here and there. I keep telling Yoda he doesn't get the official "you are staying" until I hear him purr!

hello, there are 4 furbabies. they are so cute. one is gray like its mommy two are calico and the last one is gray and black with spots of orange. they all love to be held except the gray one, it just likes to be petted
. i found the mommy cat at my back door and started feeding her and soon realized that she didnt belong to anyone. i brought her in because i thought she was pregnant and she was. i dont agree with cats getting pregnant like that but i have to admit that i have been enjoying it since they have been born
. i do plan to get her spayed in the next couple of weeks, as much as i love the kittens i dont want her to go through this again. she originaly had 5 but the last one was still born
, it was solid white. they are still nursing on her but do eat the canned kitten food too. cant get them to even try the hard kind. thank you for all the information i have read on here has definately been a HUGE help.
