I know some of you people have dogs too and was wondering if anyone buys it and what they think as far as nutrition goes.

AND

If it IS a good quality food, is there anything comparable for cats? Like Chicken Soup maybe? That is what I feed my cats but I am looking for something for my Sheltie, Max, who is a little picky sometimes. I currently feed him Nutro but I heard about Beneful and was wondering if how it compares. Better or worse? Any comments on it?? Thanks.

Beneful is pretty bottom of the barrel IMO
Nutro Natural is FAR better, heck, Costco's store brand Lamb and Rice is better than Beneful.

Here's the Beneful ingredients list:

Ground yellow corn, chicken-by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, beef tallow preserved with mixed-tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, Minerals (tricalcium phosphate, salt, potassium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), sugar, sorbitol, water, animal digest, phosphoric acid, sorbic acid (a preservative), L-Lysine monohydrochloride, dried peas, dried carrots, calcium propionate (a preservative), choline chloride, Vitamins [Vitamin E, Vitamin A, niacin, Vitamin B-12, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, biotin, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Vitamin D-3], added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2), DL-Methionine, glyceryl monostearate, garlic oil.

Beneful is very marginal (IMO). Personally I'd probably use "Ol' Roy" before Beneful...that should tell you all you need to know.

Ok thanks guys, I never actually looked at the ingredients, I never remember to when I am in the store. Max is about 6 years old and sometimes is picky, he throws up if he doesn't eat at a certain time, like if we are gone and feed him a couple hours late, then there will sometimes be puke on the floor somewhere. Other times, he may not eat half the day and then we put down food and he looks at it and walks away. He is not extremely active. When I go there I take him out and walk him and play ball but I don't think anyone else really does. My mom only takes him out to go to the bathroom, she says she wants him to be an indoor dog. I try to explain that he is a herding dog and wants to be outside running around, but he is a weird dog. He is moody almost. Hyper sometimes and just wants to lay in the sun other times.

I am not sure which Nutro he is on, he lives with my mom and I am not the one feeding him all the time. It is a light blue bag though I know that much.

Jen Ask your mom to move Max to the silver bag .. it is a senior formula and easier to handle for some older children...
