Hmm...I think I'm living that one. I had good intentions when I trapped the feral kittens I have, and right now it's hell!
I just had to throw away a big bowl of dry kitten food 'cause one of the wormy little boogers pooped in it!
Also, right now, three rooms away, I can hear them hissing and growling...sigh.

Yes...good intentions.

(yeah, I know that's not exactly what the originator of that phrase meant...
)

Also, it took me forever to figure out, "A stitch in time saves nine". I thought that they meant stitching actual time, and how that couldn't be done.
Stupid kid.

Ahhhh... I never paid a thought to that saying before, but it makes sense now that you mention it.

I remember it was depicted in a coloring book or something, and there was a clock with stitches in it...that's probably where the confusion started.

LOL!!! -darn misleading coloring book!
I thought that saying had something to do with that book called A Wrinkle In Time.

Maybe the road to hell is actually paved with misleading coloring books.

I think what the saying means is if you take care of a problem early (like putting one stitch to close a hole), you'll save yourself alot of time and trouble fixing it later when it's a much larger problem (when it would take nine stitches).

I think.

I dunno.

Damn coloring book.

Oh, I just love these and I have many.
..How about "3 sheets to the wind".
..They fought tooth and nail.
..I hope I can say this one, but I never undertood it. He had a "s**t eating grin" on his face.
..Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I'll stop for now, I have many many more

Ooh ooh I've got some!

`Laughing on the other side of your face'
(I still use that one just cos I think it sounds funny!)

`Legs all the way up to her armpits'
(This would NOT be attractive)

`That one's got a mind of his own'
(Who else's mind would he have?)

There's heaps, aren't there? My boss is very interested in this kind of thing and often gets me to look up phrases and words to see where they came from. In doing so I've discovered this great website that explains these sayings and where so many of them originated, as well as unusual words or expressions. It's called `worldwidewords.org'. It's really very cool.

You can tell how old a horse is by looking at its teeth, well I can't, but some people can. So if someone gives you a horse, don't look too closely, it could be ready to "kick the bucket"--another strange phrase.

I think that the 'dont look a gift horse in the mouth' may mean that dont be nasty to someone who is giving you something of helping you out? Something along those lines anyway!

Lets see,
...It's raining cats and dogs. Wow, imagine that happening

...It's was raining to beat the band
...That's the pot calling the kettle black. Huh?

...He stuck his foot in his mouth. I don't know about you, but I don't think I could ever do that. Not with size 13 1/2

As opposed to an elbow start????

"You can't have your cake...and eat it too?"
What should we do with our cake?
After while...our homes would become filled with stale, dried up cake.
