Marion County Humane Society Continues to Stir Controversy
Neighbors of the Perry Link Memorial Humane Society in Jasper have been complaining about the noise and odor coming from the establishment.
Workers and volunteers at the non-profit business had hoped to put up insulation this past weekend to try to cut down on what residents of the area say is disrupting their lives.
Instead, humane society president Annette Mobley says their board of directors told them to shut down because of recent vandalism to their building. Mobley couldn't find any other suitable location, so they're now back to insulating the shelter. They've also started moving some of the louder barkers to their home at night.
While this plan should cut down on some of the noise, not everyone sees it, or even moving, as the best solution. Neighbor Jeff Lee, an animal lover with a special needs dog says, "It's not just the barking that concerns us. It's the treatment of the animals that concerns us. That's a metal building. It has no air condiditioning at all, no ventilation. It gets in the 90s here, it's going to be in the hundreds in that building."
To aid in the ventilation, Mobley says she plans on installing a large fan when the insulation goes up. But she adds they are willing to move to somewhere less controversial if they can find an appropriate building in their price range.http://www.newschannel9.com/engine.p...%25M+%25e,%25Y
Sounds like a poorly planned rescue operation gone bad.
