Subject: Re: Hartz Flea and Tick drops to be cancelled for certain usages - labelling change

My little Luther died this week. Five days after the application of
Hartz Flea and Tick drops.
He was neither debilitated or old or too young. He was a healthy
four
year old who had never had any health issues...unlike my
Persians...he
was my only non Persian...His only symptoms were first: personality
change ...became suddenly timid and recluse; followed by tremors and
drooling...by that time the vet said it was probably too late.
I began to suspect the drops after his burial...I remembered I
nearly
lost two of my Persians after giving them flea collars.
They did recover; we caught it in time.
This post for me confirms my suspicions.
I only hope now that pet shops and discount stores don't begin
selling
this item at a great reduction to make up their costs and that Hartz
will reimburse these business customers so that they will not have
taken a loss.
I really miss my little Luther. He was a song in my heart.

I used Hartz once on my cats and I will never do it again. We were moving and it was a holiday, and I was out of the revolution and I wanted them to be protected when we moved, and my older cat, Samantha, started to get tremors, like she kept twitching her head and her back, and she would slump down like she had this heavy weight on her...and I got concerned, so I bathed her in dawn dishwashing detergent and called the emergency vet, and they told me that I did the right thing, and to watch her closely for the next 12 hours and see how she does. Once I bathed her, she was fine. I will never do it again. In fact, I finished the last tube on my dog, and will never use it again, because it smells awful.
Take it from me...don't put this crap on your animals. Its not worth the risk.

What an awful way to die!! I have heard that the flea drops are dangerous, but I didn't realize how horrible they were. I wish that there could be class-action lawsuit against Hartz; after all, they do animal testing. I hope that Heaven has an extra special reward for those poor animals who suffer due to human error (in this case, corporate greed). Our area is so dry, and the altitude too high, so fleas are not an issue. My condolences to any & all who've lost a beloved pet due to these drops; and great sympathy for those whose pets suffered but survived. (my daughter has permanent brain injury due to the baby shot "DPT", now outlawed - I understand the guilt and anguish you owners feel) Susan

Ok the company has been revamping its products. They are changing the formula, making it safer and making more specific labels and warnings. They have hired specialists to come in and make a new formula, but it all takes time. They have recalled some products, but recalling is a tedious business and again it all takes time.

Anytime you use an over-the-counter product on a cat or dog, be very aware that something could go wrong. This applies not only for "pet safe" products, but products for humans as well.

I've heard bad things about it to... I won't use it anymore. I used it a couple of times, but then I heard that about it, and haven't used it since.

Not to argue, and I don't mean to here, with a Mod, but if they recalled the products, why are they still on the shelves in most stores?
A recall would mean notifying all retailers who carry the product and have them pulled from the shelves and sent back.
I still see these products in the grocery stores and in other stores.

Doesn't matter to me... no matter how they'll "improve" it... I won't use it again!
