When we bought Mika, it was a pure heartache finding him... we found absolutely no breeders in town after two weeks of searching. The other week, I was browsing through the local pet ads and found someone selling purebred Siamese, so I looked them up, and wouldn't you know it!!! There's a breeder right up the street!

We were talking about getting Mika a little brother or sister at some point, and I even mentioned maybe a pretty blue point, so I emailed the breeder to ask about the details of her cattery for future reference. She said they would not be breeding for about a year due to having to move to temporary housing that only allows two cats. They are moving in two weeks, and have one little blue point girl they have to find a home for!

Of course, I'm aching to go meet her. And we could bring a new little girl home today if we wanted. My biggest concern is Mika. We love him to death and love love LOVE him being a snuggle bunny with us. I'm really afraid that he won't snuggle as much if there's a pretty little girl to flirt and snuggle with
.

What should we do?

Hi
Cats don't know flirting
...Depending on his personality, he could bond just as much with a male as with a female...But of course, he needs to be neutered if he isn't already.

I have heard that female/male and male/male are the best combinations out there so I think it would be alright for a girl to join the family as much as another boy.

Btw, Is the donation thing towards a cat tree for real?????

How exciting!! What a wonderful dilemma! Well, as a mulltiple cat owner, I can attest to the fact that cats really do consider you the "meowmmy" and the "senior cat". And since the kitten that you want is available, it sounds like the time is right! In fact, the younger Mika is, the easier for him to adjust. And the TCS site is chock full of very knowledgeable cat owners who can give you wonderful advice on the transition. There is so much experience combined with wisdom in this site - IMO, don't hesitate!! Please keep us posted (in fact, I'll keep checking the Behavior forum, in case you get your baby girl, and post there!) Looking foward to reading your next post! Susan

I say go for it. I have a boy and a girl inside, and Garfield is a total lovebug. If the cat is the right color, I think you should at least go take a look.

I would say go for a look and if it feels right, just do it! It's just too coincidental, you have to pursue it.

Yeah, the donation thing is thru a new service that I wanted to try and couldn't think up anything else to use it for! We only have 3 donations & need 40, with six days left to go I doubt it'll go through!

It's just that Mika is such a spoiled little only child. I love it that he follows us around and curls up with us whenever we take a nap or go to bed, that he always wakes me up by bringing a toy (or whatever he has excavated from the trash) to me in the morning... and that we play fetch with him in the evenings the whole time while we're watching whatever primetime show. I would hate the idea that any of his cuteness towards us would diminish because of another cat, although I know he needs a playmate while we're at work or busy.

It's a tough decision! I wasn't ready yet! LOL!!

Dear Sooz, go girl go, at least go and LOOK at her! She is nice and close by so you could "visit" and check out her puursonality! Of course, since I have been waiting to go and pick up MY little blue girl and still have three weeks to go, I am slightly prejudiced! :-) Please let us know! PS> He can't be any more spoiled than Jasper anyway!
I say go and look!

I kind of subscribe to the idea that cats find you, and not the other way around. This sounds like one of those cases - you just happened to call at a time when this little girl needed a home. It couldn't hurt to take a look. And look at it this way - you'd have two purrbabies to cuddle and play with.

How old is the girl? An 8 mo old male can be extremely energetic, and might be too rough for a tiny baby cat. But if she is several months old it could work out great.

What she said
. I was in the same position as you, except we have been trying to get a kitten since last September, we tried three times to adopt a "rescue" kitten and each time it fell through. I wanted to get a sister to Bijou after we lost Butch and Jasper was an only cat but my husband said it was too much hassle since they are in Canada and we are in CA, so we tried rescue but it kept falling through, then I just happened to email Bijou's mommy, who just for the heck of it emailed Bijou's breeder to find out that his "mom" was ready to have a litter, still, had to be a blue girl.....and then when she had them there was my blue girl....so I believe in "fate" or whatever you want to call it too....good luck and let us know please?

As many of you know, our daughter tried living on her own for a bit and missed Bijou terribly. She went to the breeder and bought one of Bijou's younger sisters. Then she decided not living at home had many drawbacks, LOL and moved back in with her kitten!

Bijou is a large Siamese boy (15.6 lbs) and Mika at the time was 4 lbs so we had concerns about Bijou being rough with her. We kept them separated but able to see each other and touch each other's paws through a gap in the door. After about 4 days to a week, we allowed them strictly supervised visits and if they got rough they were separated immediately. After 1 month we felt secure enough that they could be together unsupervised and on Christmas Day we went to my in-laws and left the cats together. When we came home all was well and Bijou turned out to be an awesome "big brother" to Mika. He'll stand back and let her eat and drink out of his dishes and often will back off when we are playing with the wand and let Mika play while he watches. They sometimes get a little rough still but they sort it out themselves and nobody seems to get hurt.

Sometimes they curl up and sleep together during the dayand other times they prefer to sleep by themselves. At night Mika sleeps with our daughter and Bijou sleeps with us.

They are both still very affectionate with us. I hope that answers some of your questions.

I was hoping a meezer mom would respond

Mika weighed in just over 7 lbs when he went to the vet a couple months ago... not sure what he weighs now, but yep, he sure is energetic and likes to rip around the house. The "kitten" is 5.5 months old, so surely she could hold her own.

There's just the two of us in one bed
, and Mika's routine is to skooch down between the sheet & blankie to sleep between my knees. He's pretty well established with his routines.

I'm just anxious
We'll certainly go look, I would hate for the breeder to run out of time and not be able to figure out what to do with kitty!! If nothing else we can always offer to foster.

I'm just picturing the noise/activity level of two Siamese at that age.

That'll be fun!

jcat - ours is actually a very quiet household. Bijou rarely meows unless he wants to go out and even then not constantly - just when you look at him so it's almost like he knows he has your attention and is asking the question, can I go out!

Mika has a voice birth defect and is unable to meow other than little "hufflike" sounds, although if Bijou gets rough she can squeal at him loudly enough that he gets the message.

That surprises me. We had two "Appleheads", and both were very loud, meaning they always managed to drown out the dogs, and had to comment on everything. Jamie is half Oriental Shorthair, i.e., his mom was more or less a Siamese without the mask, and he can be heard three doors down. I'm very hard of hearing, and he manages to wake me up when he's two floors below me. Talk about the "cry of the banshee"!

I could not imagine having another Cola in the house. She is already pretty close to waking the dead

Go for it Sooz! I think this sounds like a perfect match! Let us know ok?
