Hey everyone whom I haven't met yet...I posted in the new members section a while ago, but if I missed you, hello from Chicago!

Anyway.

My furbaby, Leo, won't eat wet food. At all. We just went to the vet yesterday for a physical and vaccinations, and she told me that while being on the Science Diet kibble was great, that he probably needs some more protein. Today, I tried mixing the wet with the kibble, feeding him the two separately...neither method succeeded in getting him to eat the wet.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to what I can try tomorrow? I know, I know, my cat's a weirdo...

Nah, you're cat isn't a weirdo.
My boy Trent won't eat wet food either. He doesn't even lick the gravy.

I'm not sure what to tell you, but I'll move this to Health & Nutrition where our resident experts can give you more advice.

Hi,

Well...to be honest, I wouldn't feed Science Diet kibble..it's not the best quality food out there, and uses ingredients I would avoid such as corn/corn meal, by-product meal for example. But..to your question..not all cats will eat canned food, you can try to find what your cat likes best re texture - as various brands will come as ground (or pate), shredded, chunked, sliced, minced fine, whole (as in seafood in aspic), with and without gravy..seafood/beef or poultry-based.

Generally speaking, canned food is recommended for increased moisture.

A new to the market dry food with a very high protein content and NO grains is Innova EVO Cat & Kitten

You might ask your vet about adding boiled chicken or beef (no spices or seasonings) on occasion if you want to add protein. My cat begs me for his treat every night. It's not his primary food, as pure chicken wouldn't be a balanced diet, but he literally leads me to the kitchen to give it to him.

Wow, I had never heard that!
When I got him at the shelter he was eating some very questionable generic food, so when I asked the vet what I should switch him to, she immediately put him on Science Diet, which is also what we feed at the rescue that I work with. So, of course, I assumed that Science Diet was a really good choice (that, and I get a discount on it for being a shelter employee). Of course I had looked into the ingredients and since Leo was so skinny when I got him, I assumed that the carbs might help.

But, I've noticed the Innova down at Barker and Meowsky (my nearest pet store...so cute) so I'll have to give that a try.

I also called the vet, she suggested, as a few of you guys did, to feed him a little bit of chicken. So I'm going to bake some so that it gets a more dry texture, similar to what he likes.

Thanks for all of your help, guys!

I have two that wouldn't touch wet food.
They have finally started eating it in small doses.

I put about 2-3 tablespoons of food in a bowl, and microwave it a few seconds until it's warm, then I add a tablespoon of plain yogurt and mix it in really well.
The yogurt did the trick, they are now eating the food.
Before, all they would do is eat the gravy and leave the food.

The vets all push Science Diet. It's the same story around here. It's not the best food by any means-it has by-products and a lot of grains. My cats don't like wet food either. I am trying all kinds of different things-so far, not all that much luck. But you should try different kinds, because there are many good wet foods out there. He might like one but not the other.
