As they put it on the news, it's not KNOWN there is a tsunami however there is the potential so better safe than sorry.

Good news, they stopped the evacuations. I'm still not going to the beach for a bit!

Always better to be safe than caught off guard! We saw that horror in December.

CNN isn't even reporting it yet, our local news channel is.
Fox News said that it was a 7.4 quake but they think it was too far out to cause a tsunami. Or something like that. (We were flipping all the news channels to see what we could find out...)

I wonder if some of the people who live at the beach here left, I mean I would have.

Anyways, they also said it's not the type of quake that usually creates tsunami's.

actually, valanhb, I prefer a cancelled warning to an unwanted surprise. It gave a bit of a thrill for those near the beach & is a good wake-call to remind those unprepared. With traffic the way it is in CA, esp. the coastal areas, evacuations are such a mess & it's best to be prepared for the worst. Whenever I visit down there, I keep supplies in my vehicle - including cat food & extra water, for those paw-people in need. Earthquakes & wildfires are also a threat at sometime or another here. Somehow, they scare me less than tornadoes, though: when visiting TN, I'm one of the first to throw sleeping bag, flashlight & supplies in the bathtub & hide. I've seen winds of only 70mph carrying parts of trailer-homes & buildings, so the building codes there leave me much to worry about....

With one thing and another, I sat here blissfully unaware, until they announced on the 11 pm news that the tsunami warning had been cancelled.
I said, "Huh??", not having heard that there was anything to be concerned about in the first place. Thanks for your concern, everyone!!

Sheesh, I missed the whole thing too. Two quakes in as many days. One in Chile 7.9 and one in N Cal., 7.0. Hmmm.

Edited to add the 5.2 near San Diego on Sunday.

I just realized it was kinda windy outside when i started reading this... but not really more than normal...

i dont know how, but everyone else always seems to know about warnings way before i do... my parents call me asking about warnings for northern california and what is going on, i am like :censor::censor::censor:?

you got the warning and the cancellation before i even knew anything about it

good to know it is cancelled though!
