Installed new feliway diffuser on May 16. There is still liquid in it. When should I put a refill in? Thanks for your help.

I wondered about that. According to the package directions "one vial lasts approximately four weeks" but they also note "although fluid may be remaining after six weeks, the vial should be replaced." So this makes me think that you could go for six weeks (so long as there is fluid remaining). The question I have then is about efficacy (e.g. product strength over time). When they test these things out I would assume that they get 100% efficacy initially and the effect declines over time. But I wonder what the curve of efficacy over time looks like (do we have a gradual decline from the start or is there a sharp drop off after six weeks)? Since I do not have a pheromone output detecting device (other than my cats), it is a mystery to me. Given the expense of the refills, I would want to have it last as long as possible so long as I am not compromising it's effectiveness. Perhaps this is a question for the Feliway manufactuers? Or our resident pheromone chemist?

That's what we need, a pheromone chemist! I can only speak for myself, but have observed a decrease in the effective of the product with Sierra following the 4 week period when I had written it down and was not consciously keeping up with it. (For this reason, I don't believe it's psychological or placebo effect on my part.) Therefore, I replace Sierra's refill every 4 weeks. You're right, they are expensive, aren't they! However, I feel the effect is worth the money. If you decide to contact the manufacturers, please do let us know what they say! I've actually wondered this myself and would really like to have their feedback!

So far I have not been able to find any studies about the efficacy over time of the feliway diffuser on google (of course, typing in "synthetic fraction of F3 fraction of feline facial pheromone" in my search). At least unlike revolution, which costs $30/month for my three kitties (3.3 cents per day per cat, and to treat three cats approximately 10 cents per day), feliway is a product that does not cost more when you have more cats . In fact, at $18.79 with a four week duration of use, the feliway refill costs only 6.7 cents per day for one cat, and for three cats, that works out to 2.23 cents per day per cat. So like so many things, it's only pennies per day!!! There, that will have everyone feeling much better no doubt. Also if you do the math, you can justify the cost of many purchases using the pennies per day theory, even a new Ferrari (assuming you drive it for a long long time)!!! I should know, I can rationalize the purchase of almost anything!!!
