We picked up our handsome new 3 yr. old Maine Coon on Sunday (6-11) and he has not peed since. That's almost 48 hrs! There are no clumps in his litterbox and I don't see any damp areas in the house (I better not!) He's only had a few bites of food and no water, but maybe he's too stressed in his new environmet? This doesn't seem healthy to me. Has anyone experienced this with a new kitty? He's the only pet in the house, we have no children, and he knows where his litterbox is.

Thanks everybody, I know I can count on you!

Well he could be stressed, he could be ill or he could be peeing out of the box which means he could be stressed or ill. I would get him to the vet to be sure all is okay- especially if he really hasn't peed since Sunday. Also give him two litter pans not just one-

I just went through the same senario with an 8 month old female kitten I adopted. Brought her home on a Wednesday afternoon; no pees or poops for about a day and a half. I was concerned so took her to the vet (she needed a pill for tapeworms anyway). The vet wasn't concerned and said she would go when she had to go. But he did express her bladder and commented on the quantity of urine. I took her home and it was 2 1/2 more days before she peed and pooped. In total, it was about 4 days without pooping and a couple of days between pees, yet she was eating and drinking a fair quantity. Then it was another 2 days without any action. Now she has been with us for two weeks and her elimination seems to have normalized. I too was at first concerned she may have issues with the litterbox and tried several different boxes and litter. As it turns out, her litterbox comportment has been impeccable. I'm not sure what the issue was, other than the stress of having been at the shelter in a cage for a couple of weeks and then the adjustment to another new environment at our home.

Thanks for your advice, his potty habits have normalized and his manners are impeccable! No accidents at all even in a strange new house!
