Hi all! I'm considering adopting a second cat. The only thing that has stopped me so far is my financial situation. I'm worried about any addional vet fees...having to buy more food/litter is no problem. But what if one/both of them suddenly get sick? I work as a part time casual employee, but make pretty good coin for a part timer. I keep getting told it's a bad idea, but I don't see why not. Is there something I'm overlooking here?? I have recently signed up for and received a credit card, which I will be using for vet bills only. Most clinics here take credit cards, so I can't go wrong.

What do you think, should I go for it?

The only problem I see is that Credit Cards don't pay themselves back, so if you are unlucky enough to have both cats get sick you don't want to sink yourself into debt you can't get out of.

How well would you be able to pay for both of them for standard vet visits like vaccinations, etc? How much money can you pay per cat before you start sinking badly into debt? Do you have savings that you can use on them? No need to answer here, but these are just things to think about.

Most cats seem to appreciate having a buddy though, if that is an issue.

How healthy is your current cat? What is the history of your prospective kitten?

Until Imogen, I only saw the vet for shots once a year. Now, we've been on much friendlier terms!

If you have reason to expect high vet bills, perhaps pet insurance is an option? I've always scoffed at this (having had healthy cats) but it would've paid for itself with Im's vet bills...

Would you be able to afford pet insurance? Generally, you pay up front (so you would still need the credit cards) and they reimburse you later. It might be worth it for the peace of mind.
