We have an unusal problem. We have 2 cats (one from pound, the other found us) (and 2 dogs) All of our animals are spayed/neutered. My question is about our 8 year old Calico-she has started pooping on our bed. We have two litter boxes, in two separate parts of the house. Any suggestions or idea? We do take all of the animals to the vet regularly and she has no health problems. Our cats are insides pets-they do not go outside.
Thank you

My all-indoor cats are mostly healthy (except for Ziv) and have all been to the vet for regular checkups within the past three months. But, if one of them pooped on the bed today, I would schedule the most immediate appointment I could get. Your cat knows that she should be using the litterbox, but she has a problem, so she did the best she could to make you aware--by picking a spot she was sure you would notice! Inappropriate bathroom behavior is most often caused by a health problem. Take her to the vet soon, and if your regular vet can't fine anything, get a second opinion.

I wish your cat the best of health and I hope this is a problem that's easily resolved. Let us know what happens!

Don't guess that the cat is in good health- call the vet and get the cat in for an appointment quickly. If the health issue is ruled out, then look at the other factors. This is not an unusual problem at all, I hear it all the time, and nine times out of ten it turns out to be health related.

I would most definately take your cat to the vet. My cat starting defecating on my bed and it turned out she had a UTI that must've been around for a while. I didn't realize that she a UTI because her urine looked normal -- I couldn't see blood. I took her to the vet and he said it was probably behavioral. So I took her to another vet that test her for a UTI and that's what is was. I felt sooooo bad that I didn't figure it out sooner...the pain she must've been in. AND I also realized that defecating on my bed was an extreme thing she had to do to get my attention.

Once you have taken your cat to the vet to have any health problems ruled out, please click here to read about what to do to stop pooping problems. BUT...please do take your cat to the vet before trying any of these ideas. If a medical problem is causing the behavior, nothing beyond medication will solve the problem.

Please let us know what the vet finds.

The Vet did a stool check and found no parasites, but found that the stool was very liquid. So she rx'd an antibiotic and something to firm up the stool. The tech (who is wonderful) said that is was so liquid, that she thought perhaps Phantom just couldn't make it to the litterbox. So we have added a third litterbox-in the bathroom connected to the masterbedroom. So far, so good
But, giving her meds was difficult. She had always eaten dry food and so I got canned to put the meds in (as suggested)...she didn't like it as much as her dry.
Go figure!

A couple of our cats are like that. Most of them like the occasional piece of people food (meat, egg, etc.), but Skittles and Ozzy generally act like we're trying to poison them or something if we give them anything but cat food or cat treats.
