Nebraska Kittens Need Good Home

I've been given the choice of declawing my kittens, being evicted or finding them a new home. Sadly, I'd rather them have a good home with their claws than declaw them; and being evicted isn't an option.

They are two 10 month old kittens that are from a litter of 6 that I saved from the cold and rain (no mommy, only cow milk to survive). They were all wormy and bloated and starving. I nursed them to health and found good homes for 4 of them but ended up keeping 2 more (couldn't find a home, and I got attached). They are spayed/neutered, beautiful, so loving, hyper as can be, no FIV, dewormed, up to date on all their shots, etc. They are highly adoptable.

I put an ad in the paper a while back, but I got some creepy callers. I found them a home recently, but it just dawned on me that they would be outside cats. I'm scared they would run away right away.

So I'm running out of options. I have until the 15th of July and will be on vacation for part of the time. I assume they would be adopted from the humane society, but I can't be sure. Our two no-kill shelters are totally full. Any options? I'd be willing to drive as far as Kansas City for a good no-kill shelter.

If the alternative is between declawing these cats or having them euthanized by a kill shelter, I would declaw. It's a kitten season right now, and all the shelters are full. I know some people that have declawed cats (front paws only) with no ill effects. There is laser declaw that is better than regular declaw. Again, there is no way I would place them in a shelter knowing they could be killed, when I could declaw them and have them with me. Also, there is no way I would place cats in an outdoor home either.

I take it that the landlord is the issue, which is why you can't try softclaws.

Have you looked/posted on www.petfinder.com - you can also look for rescue groups/humane societies in your area.

Those are my best bets, I don't know your area of the US very well.

That really doesn't give much time to find them a home. I would really recommend asking your vet whether you can show the 2 at their clinic. I would also ask the local rescue groups if you can act as the kittens foster but show them at any adoption events. Tell the rescue group that you will let them collect their normal fee.

Good Luck

Thanks all. Yeah, it is a landlord issue. I actually did purchase Soft Claws (I posted another time on the site about my declawing issue).

A friend actually helped me today, and I think I found them a very good home with other cats. A lot of it is my own guilt--I know that I did the right thing by saving them, but now I feel like I'm abandoning them. But I am sure that the cats will make fabulous pets and love someone else just like they love me (and vice versa).
