I put a collar on Oscar finally about a week and a half ago. I haven't had any problems with it and he seems ok with although I think he likes the noise of the tag becasue he shakes his head so he can hear it all the time. ANYWAYS just 2 days ago I woke up to him playing with something and I thought it was a ball that I put up(it has an ANNOYING bell in it and he plays with it at night and it bothers me). Well I looked and it was his collar! Somehow the little booger got it off! And I thought maybe it was too loose and he just wriggled out of it. So I tightened it a little and just this morning, before work, I pet him goodbye and the collar was gone again! Somehow he is getting his collar off! And the claspy thing was undone both times. I don't know if he plays with it til he gets it off or what. Has anyone had this problem and is there anyway to stop him from getting it off?

PS I have to have collar and tag here at my apartment in case he gets out.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks, Courtney

Ha ha
I have the same problem with Tommy. He seems to be able to take his collar off at will, but I've never seen him do it, so I have no idea HOW he's doing it.
If you figure it out, please let us know!!

*sigh* elliot got his off too and I dont know where it is... he has to have a small dog collar because he is a big cat and the regular ones dont work
He probably pulled it off... the little turd... but its most likely in the enclosed porch somewhere... bleh..

best thing to do is to keep putting it on him, and buy extras..

If the collar for Oscar is an actual cat collar, we all know those things are made to break away if they get caught on something. Im sure Oscar isnt trying to hang himself so the collar would break free but they seem kind of sensitive. I had tried to put a collar on Geisha about 20 times but all she does is stand on her hind feet and play with the tag and the little bell (or try to anyway). Do your cats go outside? I have decided to keep the collar off of Geisha since she is indoors only and if she does manage to get out the door shes only going as far as the apartment breezeway. She can run but she cant hide! It seems that collars are something that pets have to get used to. Try putting the collar on the cats and watch their behavior closely. Do you notice any sign of attempting to take the collar off? Geisha tried once or twice to push hers off. Maybe they are taking each others collars off. I know its sounds strange, but cats do the darndest things when they play.

Ah - inca did this with her first collar. She hid it from me, the clever girl. And it wasn't a case of wiggling out of it, she actually unbuckled the plastic thingie. In the end, I got her one of thos Beastie band collar things ( http://www.beastiebands.com )... It attaches with velcro and is elasticated so she can't unbuckled it. Saying that - she tends to lick it when she's grooming herself and sometimes we take it off her at night anyway as she wakes us up with her grooming in the morning!

Good luck!

My one cat, Dixie doesn't mind his collar, but his brother Mud, usually manages to get his off, until we bought him a collar for a small dog. It clicks together, but isn't a breakaway one, which I prefer, but whats a "mommy" to do. We keep collars on them at all times because they are twins and we can't tell them apart otherwise :-)
This dog collar has been on for 2 weeks now, a new record for Mud! Good luck with your cat collar dilema!

Oscar is indoors only but we live in a townhouse so he DOES have a chance of getting out and that's why I keep the collar on him. He's a very curious kitty. And our owners recommend we keep a collar and tag on. And I don't notice him trying to take it off. It only comes off when we aren't watching.

It definately could be that he is getting it caught on something. Dori loves her collar, as a matter of fact when it does come off I can pick it up and she runs over and holds her head up for me to put it back on. But occasionally her collar will be missing from her neck and I find it in various places, sometimes with the break away fastener unclipped or sometimes she gets it off without it becomming unfastened at all. I know that she doesn't purposely try to take the collar off.
I would be careful with tightening it up too tight. Make sure you can comfortable fit 2 fingers between the collar and his neck.

His collar is loose enough but tight enough he can't wriggle. He's just a lil punk, I guess!
