cookie recipe question

Ok, this is for you bakers out there...

My niece wanted some cookies, so I made up a batch. It's supposed to make 4 dozen, but I only got 2 dozen out of it. That's what usually happens when I make cookies, I never get the amount it's suppose to make
I guess I make them too big!


I was wondering if any of you who bake ever get the right amount when making cookies?

I don't do that much baking these days, because we end up eating too much sweet stuff if I do. But in the days when I was keeping the cookie jar filled, I usually came pretty close to the stated yield. I think most recipes intend you to take the dough by teaspoonsful, which generally gives a cookie a couple of inches in diameter when baked. You can let kids have "one for each hand" that way, without going overboard.
But, heck, if your family likes giant cookies, they're good too!

I measure a teaspoon or tablespoon exactly- using a round measuring spoon. Usually recipes that call for lots of cookies use the teaspoon, as someone else mentioned. Nothing wrong with big cookies though! Unless of course you have a certain amount you have to make. It's always nice to follow measurments and have enough left over to freeze for later.

I even come out with less when I use the measuring teaspoon as well!
