This morning Emmett couldn't open on of his eyes. After checking it out it was closed with "sleep" so I use warm water to clean his eye and now is all well.

Is there any way to stop this occuring? It seems its that one eye that produces the ick the most. Its not a lot but, its uncomfortable for Emmett.

This isn't normal. And it doesn't have anything to do with sleep. Sounds like conjunctivitis. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, or if it gets worse, I suggest seeing a vet.

I had a kitten like that... quick trip to the vet, some antibiotics and some eye ointment should clear it up.

I checked out his eye this morning and it looks normal. Maybe it was just a one night thing. I'm still gonna keep and "eye" on it and see if anything more happens. It could be the weather, its been really hot and we've had everything shut due to the a/c. I hope I don't have to take him to the vet.

Ya know, it's a possibility he has something like CJ has. She has a form of non-contagious to humans, and unharmful to the cat, herpes of the eye. What it is is that CJ gets a runny eye now and then, and then it goes away. It could last a day to a week. There's nothing the vet gave me for it... and just said that if it starts looking a little bad, just wipe it away with a warm cottonball.

If this discharge is yellowish-green to green, you will need an antibiotic eye ointment to treat it. The color of the discharge can indicate an infection ... yellowish-green to green is most certainly an infection.
