I don't think dialup folks need to attempt this unless you're REALLY bored
! This is the first time I've ever attempted anything like this, and I had to find some shareware to tinker with the video as it was fairly dark (my house stays dark) so it's still not great. It's about 40 seconds, 2.5 megs so even with broadband will take a couple of minutes to download.

Kittens can fit under furniture you would not believe:

Thanks Stacy! The quality was much, much better in the original Quicktime (.mov) format but the file was almost 7 megs
! I'll be able to do some better stuff when I finally break down and save up my pennies to buy some real editing software ($100 minimum---Adobe wants $500 for theirs ... I don't THINK so!)

are you using a digital video camera or just a regular digital with video on it? That wasn't bad quality at all I don't think... 7 megs!! :-o I have all adobe programs but i've never messed with actual video on it so I dont know how good it is at reducing sizes of video. I know it does a good job with pictures though! I lucked out though because i got it free from my IT friend who was given his company software to distribute. lol they figured if they were going to pay that much people were going to use it!

It was a perk that came as one of the functions of my new digicam (Panasonic Lumix) and I've been playing with it trying to learn a bit about it. The default that it saves video to is .mov (Quicktime.) I don't know how common this is, a "real" DV camcorder may have options as to what format you save to. The .avi is smaller filewise, and it seems like most, if not all, of the video editing programs are geared toward .avi.

I'd use Adobe too if somebody gave it to me
!

Yah, it's amazing where they can fit themselves. I think they're part amoeba!

Well that was a treat! Thanks! So did you upload that to TCS as an attachment or is it hosted? I know some folks who are looking for a site that hosts that type of file!

I keep up my own website (www.rosehawke.com), it's a wopping 10 bucks a month
, but I think it's worth it. It comes with some ungodly amount of bandwidth and space available that I only use like 3% of plus a bunch of other perks that I don't use; but it comes in sooooo handy for hosting pix, or putting up "temporary" webpages (I'm uploading several megs worth of photos taken at a friend's 50th anniversary at the moment for instance,) and the like. I'm not a website designer or anything. I just like to tinker.

That's cool. My website host is cheap! But I don't get huge amounts of bandwidth. I only pay $26 a YEAR for my website. Yes, you heard right... a YEAR!!
I don't use near the bandwidth I do have but I'd be a little nervous to host my own pictures on it. hmmm maybe I should upgrade it! The upgrades are cheap too. I think it's because you don't get any email boxes with it. It's just stand alone web hosting where most include a gazillion email boxes with it or something.
