Hi there everyone. I was hoping to get some advice about our momma cat. She gave birth to 4 sweet little babies two days ago. She is acting different than any cat I have ever had in the past. I was at work when she delivered. When I got home she was waiting in the window for me. She took me to the kittens and seemed like she wasn't really sure what to do. I keep encouraging her to lay down and nurse her babies. She doesn't lick them at all adn she has thrown up several times since she gave birth. Not really sure what to do. Any ideas?

I would get her to the vet rather quickly. Have the babies been able to nurse at all? If not you need to bottle feed them, and they will need feedings every two hours- they need to stay warm or they will die, without their mom's food, or body heat, they will die- please see www.kitten-rescue.com to find out how to intervene if mom is not doing her job and get this female in to be seen by your vet.

She has been nursing them...I try to take her to them at least every two hours to feed and be with them. She likes it when I stay with her. I am on my way to get supplies to feed them if need be and a heating pad. Do you have any Idea why she will not lick them? It is so strange to me. She just ate a little bit of dry food, so maybe she is feeling better. I will get her to a vet asap. What about the babies during the time she is at the vet?
Thanks for your help!

The vet can advise what to do with the babies while she sees the vet. Please post to let us know what happens at the vet!

I agree. if you ring the vet they will tell you what they think is best. each have their own preferences. vets offices can be a bit germy so some vets like you to leave the kittens at home, others like to give them a check up too.

Momma cat checks out fine. She is eating well and has not vomited in a while. She has been spending more time with the babies on her own. Everyone is healthy so far. Thanks again for your help!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here at TCS. I was so happy to find you when Ebony wasn't feeling quite right. She has proven herself to be a great mother as the 4 fat little kittens celebrate 1 week of life. They are doing extremely well, healthy and strong. Thanks a million from all of us. It is nice to know that there are people out there that love these creatures as much as I do!

Erica,

Good to hear everything is going well. This really is an amazing group of people.

Katie

P.S. Have you talked to your vet about setting up the first dewormer appt. for the kittens. From what I've read, the first dewormer should occur around 3 weeks...but definately confirm that with your vet.

I will look into that! I'll call on Monday morning to find out. We're so happy to have found all of you!
