Frontline and ticks

I had to get a tick ( a grey one) off Dushka's neck tonight. It was well attached and there is a slight swelling that I treated with antiseptic. I used a pair of tweezers and the whole thing came off, dead already. I assume that was because she is Frontline treated. It was huge, but the blood sac was empty. Now my question is, should I get her an antibiotic injection in case the tick was on her long enough to give her something nasty? I can't find enough info on the web to make sense, only to keep cats protected with Frontline or similar, which I do.

No, you just need to keep an eye on the area the tick was in. Keep it clean, and it's there's any swelling or heat, then get to the vet. If she did happen to pick up a tick born disease, giving something right now wouldn't stop it. Frontline kills them in between 24 and 48 hours, which is supposed to be before the timeframe before disease is usually transmitted.

Thanks, Sandie. That was what I wanted to know. The site does still look nasty this morning - it is swollen and hard, but I am sure I got all the tick. I will keep applying antiseptic and see over the next couple of days.
