Lydia doesn't seem to want to take care of her kittens anymore. They all start crying because they are hungry. She will finally lay down to let them nurse, then she starts crying, & gets right back up. Then they cry, she gives in, & lets them start to nurse again, then she cries again gets up & leaves the room. I've tried shutting her in w/ them, Only to check on them, & find her up somewhere where they can't reach her. My guess is it may be baby teeth. Mo took a bite out of my finger last night while I was bottle-feeding him, he bites, pulls, & chews at the nipple too - the bottle, not mama. The little girl got her first taste of water tonight, out of mamas dish, the boys won't try it, & none of them are trying food yet. Lydia seems eager to wean them, but they are still much too young - I think, only 3 1/2 weeks. Is there anything I can do?

I am not a cat expert, but my first thought was mastitis (spelling ?) I had it when I was nursing and I know that I was crying!!

I'm not sure what mastitis is. When I was nursing my last baby, he got thrush. That was not at all an enjoyable experience! So, I'm not sure if the two are similar. Lydia has 3 kittens, & 2 nipples, that are quite apparently very full of milk. The rest are flat against her chest, & not noticeable, except one, that is very red & painful looking. I've noticed that it's when one of the kittens attaches to that nipple that Lydia is crying. The kittens only cry when mama walks away & they're hungry, or another kitten kicks them out of their spot. She usually tries to feed 1 or 2 kittens at a time, then finds the 3rd to feed after they are done, this seems to work quite well for everone - she's a pretty smart mama. The only time we have trouble is when they all want to eat at the same time.

Mastitis is an infection of the mammary gland. Your kitty needs a vet visit and some medication. You can also pick up some milk rep0lacer while you are there. You will need to bottle feed the kittens until they are weaned.

Until they are weaned!? They are 4 weeks old today, but won't even try food yet, or even water for that matter. One of the kittens was diagnosed by the vet as a "fading kitten" about a week & a half ago. I was given plenty of kitten formula, & bought even more as a supplement in addition to his nursing. Could she continue to nurse with the unaffected teats?
