Movin' on up!
My friend Jennifer rescued this 3-month-old kitten from an irresponsible owner. The kitty has this lump on her underside. The owner had described it as an umbilical hernia but it doesn't look like it, to me. Naturally, Jen is going to take the kitty to the vet but, in the meantime, any ideas as to what this is?

I haven't seen the kitty, in person yet, as Jen just picked her up, this afternoon.

It does look like a hernia to me. When my cat used to have kittens, some of them had hernias and it looked like that. Of course, vet should be able to tell for sure, so she definetly should take him to a vet.

Could be a hernia. Stormy had a really big one, but I could only feel it, she had so much fur you couldn't see it!!

What beautiful markings on this kitty.
Let us know what the lump is when you find out.

Jen just e-mailed belly and face. She's so tiny, Dave's (Jen's husband) hands just swallow her up.

Is it just the light or do I see patches of orange or red..making her a torbie? She's a lovely wee sprite

One of my cats had a lump that looked like that (though smaller) on her tail, and it turned out to be a fluid cyst. They were able to drain most of it with a needle, and the antibiotics took care of what was left.

So that would be my guess... Hope it's nothing serious

Jen's vet says that they can repair the hernia, at the same time as the spay. They don't want to do it, until she's 5-6 months old, though. Jen says that she's awfully small, for three months but, the mamacat was only about 8 months old, when she had this litter and probably didn't get proper nutrition. I doubt that this kitten has been getting decent food, either. Jen is feeding her up with Kitten Chow and giving her treats

She hasn't been renamed as yet (her current name is French for "Bloodthirsty"-ugh). At least, she and one other cat now have good homes. Jen's two Chihuahuas aren't very impressed with her but, they've been living with cats, all of their lives and will get used to her. She's getting along well, with the other cats and sleeps with Jen and Dave.
