pregnant stray

Hello all! A few weeks ago I started taking care of a stray male cat that appeared in my backyard. Come to find out he has a "girlfriend" who has three kittens and is pregnant again. I have been feeding the whole clan but am worried about the mom and kittens. They will not let me get near them. I don't want ther to have her kittens outside but don't know how to get them inside. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Can you contact a no-kill shelter? They may be able to give you advice on how to catch them or help you. If you take a look around the "Caring for Strays and Ferals" section of the forums you may get some ideas as well. Please keep us updated!

I just called the so called "no kill" shelter in my area and they side that they would likely put the pregnant momma to sleep, and maybe the kittens if they couldn't "tame" them.

This time of the year it is a toss up between shelters being honest that they will have to euthanize or no kill rescues telling you they are full. Either way....it doesn't leave much opportunity for the person who is trying to do the right thing.

If you tell us your city and state, we can see about providing you low cost options to get the pregnant cat spayed and may know a group that can help you.

Here are some low cost clinics....I would contact ones near you and see if they can loan you a humane trap or recommend an organization that works with strays/ferals. The male should also be trapped and fixed as he will find a new girlfriend and it will start all over again. Thanks for wanting to help this family.

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately the closest places listed would mean having the cats in the car for 1 hr or more to L.A. or San Diego. I guess I will try it, but I am worried about having them in the car for that long...

Any luck with any of the places I listed?? If not, let us know so we can continue to search for options for you.
