My cat Boo give bith to 5 kittens early Monday moring. Most everything seems to be going well, except I have noticed when the kittens feed they sometimes stop sucking after maybe a minute and start to cry and hunt for a new nipple. This makes me wonder if Boo is producing too little milk. Could it hurt to give them suplemental bottle feedings?

Also, do I need to wait until the kittens are weaned to make Boo an appointment to get fixed?

Thanks for the advise!

perhaps weigh all the kittens, so you can keep track if theyre gaining or losing weight. Then you know if theres a problem.
It wont hurt to suppliment them with a bottle, if you are that worried. Though sometimes they dont like bottles, so eye droppers may work better, if thats the case.
Good luck either way, and keep us updated!

I would give the kittens a little more time to catch on. Nursing may be an instinct they are born with, but mine took a few days to perfect it. The first few days my kittens did the same thing, didn't seem like they could've been getting anything. They will be pros in no time. I worried too that my mama cat may not have had enuf milk - she did. As long as your mama cat has unlimited access to food & water (especially water), she should be fine. I'm sure supplementing with a little KMR in a dropper (they do tend to go over a little easier than a bottle), shouldn't hurt as long as they continue nursing as well, & you, or mama will have to help them go potty after. Good Luck - it's a lot to take on! Also your mama cat can be spayed as soon as the kittens are weaned, about 6 wks after delivery - I would recommend keeping her indoors at all times until then
