It's time for a petulant rant.

My job is currently in crunch mode, so I understand why it is happening. But it also happens when we aren't in crunch mode sometimes.

And I hate it!

I signed onto this job which I knew wasn't my kind of thing, because it was going to be part time, 9-3.

Well, now he gives me enough work for 9-5 and *I'm* the bad guy for not wanting to stick around to finish it up!

I want to go home now! The cats are getting hungry! But I am STILL working on stuff because our computers don't work well!!!!

I really like my boss, but I hate this job more and more each day. I got a raise recently, but I just can't do it anymore. I think I am going to let him know I want to leave in a week or two, and then stick around a few months to put everything together (hire a new me, let him go on his vacation in August, etc).

Okay, enough ranting, gotta finish this stuff up.

Yeah, I hate to be a whiner - but I totally am.

I'm an assistant to a VERY tiny consulting business, and I have hold music to various companies memorized. The thing is, I just graduated college about 2 years ago and this is NOT what I plunked down $$$ for (not that I want to do that anymore, I have a Film Degree - which isn't useful for much else - ah well). And the angst/whineyness has been getting worse lately.

And then I decided I really WAS going to quit soon, and now every hour there is agonizing...

I know how you feel... I start work at 8 and normally don't get home til about 7. Sometimes 8. And by the time I do I'm ready to go to bed. I am also looking for a new job... it would be nice to have some sort of life, ya know? lol

Good luck in the job hunt.

I'm with ya. We end our fiscal year June 30. Every year since I've been here, May & June are full of fire drills, deadlines, and "do this now or you will be killed" type things from my boss... the boss only works a few hours a WEEK yet the rest of us grunts (who don't get paid the quarter-mil salary a year) have to be here 8 to 5, work weekends, etc.

Work sucks, I know...

I have a real easy job except for that part. Listening to the boss scream & rant & cuss everyone out for not doing his job right (
)... I just get up & walk out and go fer a long walk to chill out! July 1 cannot come soon enough!

My workload can vary from day to day, but I have 80 days left (10 which are vacation)
so I cannot wait until my office closes and onto something better!!

I totally feel for you. I was hired 2p-10p and I rarely get out until about midnight and one time I didn't get home until 2 am. We're sadly understaffed.... ugh.

I think it would be different if I cared at all about what I did. It's not totally meaningless work, people appreciate it, but it doesn't feel meaningful enough for me. I want to get a job either for a non-profit, or doing something creative I think.

And saying stuff like "I want to do something meaningful" makes me feel self-consciously early-20's.

To make you folks feel better let me tell you about the hours I work. It starts at 9am but ends at 11pm to 12midnight on a good day and other times last until 2 to 3am the next morning. I actually feel very happy if I can leave before 12 midnight. And don't even talk about coming in on the weekends. TheCatSite is one of the places I can relax by taking a short break and talk to people not from work. No coffee or smoke break for me since I do not do either of those.

I should add just in case it is not clear. When I mean talk to people not related to work I do not implicitly mean I do not like them because in reality I do enjoy the company of many of them. We send emails to each other at 12midnight or 1am to encourage each other and cheer ourselves up.

Bumpy, hon, you sound like me! Now, I have to say to some of you, if you don't like working hours like the ones I'm going to tell you about....don't ever think of going to work for yourself! Most days I start work at our bakery at 6:30, work there until time to leave for my 8-5 job (10 minutes away), leave here and work at the bakery most nights until 8ish. Sometimes, those days start at 3:30 am though, instead of 6:30! And hub works in the bakery mostly from 2 am until about 2 pm, !

WOW!

We have nothing to complain about Cindy. Even my 11 hour day today seems short compared to what you do every day!

I could never work that long a day, unless I felt REALLY passionate about what I was doing.

Lol, I've adjusted, somewhat. I can give you one worse, though.....My hub went into the bakery at 3 am Tuesday morning, he cooked, we delivered and bought stuff for the next day's meals, he went back to the bakery at 8 Tuesday night and didn't go home and to bed until Wed night about 6 pm!

I really, honestly don't like the cooking part that much, don't mind the delivery and cleanup, but hub loves to cook, so he's having a blast.

It'd be different if I worked with my bf I think, in fact I met him when a receptionist at his work - but I'd never go back to being their receptionist. As it is I am alone in the office 75% of the time which I think contributes to my problem.

I admire all of y'all for having such dedication to your jobs as to work SUCH long hours. I am strict about keeping my 7:30a-4pm schedule because I end up taking calls from clients most evenings anyway, PLUS I'm on-call every other week and have to be ready to get to the hospital at the drop of a hat.

Any other folks here that work on-call?
