My kitten, Annie Oakley, has a vestibular disease. They did a course of antibiotics, and she still has it, so it is apparently congenital. Her vestibular disease causes her to make jerky head motions a lot. I think she may be deaf, but I think she might not be. Most the time, it seems like she is, because she has NEVER woken up to a sound, even hammering, won't look at me when I call her, and when her sister wakes up if I make a noise in my room, she won't... but I think, "What if she's just a heavy sleeper and doesn't care if I call her." There are sometimes where I'll start talking to her, and she'll look at me, but I don't know if that's just the vestibular disease making her head jerk. I just don't know. I can't tell. I am going to schedule a vet appointment soon, but does anyone have any suggestions? I'm completely puzzled!

Thank-you!

Cats can sleep through any kind of noise that doesn't interest them. Does she wake up when you get cat food out?

Nope.... I even tried whistling in her ear once..... didn't wake.

Hmmm....if she doesn't wake up at the sound of kibble hitting the bowl or a can of cat food being opened (sorry, don't know which you feed), then that IS worrisome. Sorry, I was hoping I could give you some reassurance that she's not deaf. I still hope she's not, but please let us know what you find out at the vet's, OK?

I feed both... I will let you know what the vet says. If she is deaf, it will be no different. I will love her just as much.
