Hi, all you cat lovers!

I have a female cat, who's less than a year old and neutered.
She has a habbit of peeing on the couch every couple of days.
Only me and the cat are in the house - no other cats, some guests sometimes.
She is now being checked at a vet, but I suspect this is behavioral

She is not marking, but peeing.
She does it at day or at night indiscriminantly.

I thought perhaps it is because it is a leather couch, but I can think of no real reason why she would do it, even after going through the stickied thread...

If the vet turn up with "ok" results, and it is behavioral.. what should I do???

Im no expert, but your cat is definitely trying to tell you something! You have a leather couch--and the cat would know that the urine will pool--not clump or be absorbed, which means she is trying to get your attention.

I think probably she has an infection, but if not--are you spending enough play and affection time with her? Is she nervous in other ways? Feliway may help her feel more at ease and not pee on the couch. If all else fails, you can put her food and water on the couch since cats will not eliminate where they eat.

Have a good think on what she is trying to tell you that is unique for your situation. Im sure the experts on this site can give you some great advice.

Leather is tempting to some cats to urinate on. The animal smells coming from it are sometimes to much to be ignored. She could be marking her territory from the other animal- and yes females that are spayed, will also spray if they feel threatened. Is she using the litter pan at all?

What I would do is order some Anti-Icky Poo a very silly name for a very serious product- and treat your leather couch. Or go to www.urine-off.com and use their product. Let the couch air dry for 24 hours than douse it good with Feliway Spray (that is expensive) but it does work. Again let the couch air dry then let the cat into the room and see what happens-

But just to interject, unless the vet did a needle draw of urine from the bladder, he could easily miss a low-lying urinary tract infection

Good luck!

She has no animals to be afraid of, so territory is out.
She does pee in her litterbox but 2-3 times a week she does it on the couch.

I sure hope it is not the leather, and will tell you all whatever the vet will say.

In my experience, cats who pee on places like the couch or the bed are upset about something. Could she be upset about something? LOL, I seem to use this as a solution for everything, but I hate to see cats alone, but have you considered getting her a friend? Could she be bored out of her mind? Are you gone a lot?

My cats who have never gone to the bathroom innapropriately peed in my bed when I went away for a week to my brother's out of state. I knew why they did it, they were devistated that I was gone from them. I'm usually here all the time.

But the repeating of her peeing on the couch sounds like she's developing a habit of it.

My cat is peeing all over the place because he has bladder problems (FIC).
Is the vet testing your cat's urine? If not, he definetly should to rule out urinary physical problems.

HI, I AM NEW TO THE SITE AND I DONT KNOW WHERE UR SUPPOSED TO PUT UR POST,, SORRY..

ANYWAY, I HAVE A CAT THAT IS A MALE FIVE YEARS OLD. WHO HAD A URINARY TRACT INFECTION ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO.

WELL TODAY, HE PEEIED ON THE LEATHER COUCH, LOOKED JUST LIKE WATER, VERY CLEAR. WHEN HE DID HAVE HIS INFECTION HIS PEE HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLOOD IN IT WHERE I FOUND IT JUST OUTSIDE HIS LITTER BOX.

HE HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE EVEN WHEN HE HAD THE INFECTION. I AM VERY CONFUSED AND CONCERNED FOR HIS WELL BEING.

THE OTHER PROBLEM IS THAT HE IS A SCARED NELLY. ITS SO DIFFICULT TO GET HIM INTO THE CAT CARRIER TO THE VET. I HAVE TRIED ALL!!! WOULD ANYONE KNOW OF A VET THAT COMES TO THE HOUSE, OR A SITE WHERE I CAN LOOK ONE UP.. I LIVE IN QUEENS, NEW YORK..

THANKS!
