While at the vets today for our annual checkup Redford was diagnosed with a pronounced heart murmur and was referred to a kitty cardiologist.
My vet did not feel comfortable running many agressive tests since I am willing to pay for testing and she did not want to waste my money if I was willing to go to a specialist. She tried to do an EKG but Redford was having none of it and again since I was going to a cardioligist as soon as possible she is going to let them do it. She did however test for thyroid problems as that can lead to heart disease.

I cried all the way home.
I have seen no changes in Redford. He runs and plays and eats and uses the litter box. I have noticed nothing. Am I missing something?

Anyway I was so shocked I didn't know what to say. Now I am pulling myself together and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what kind of questions I should be asking the cardiologist? Should I be watching for something specific with Redford? Any advice would be appreciated.

Once the cardiologist has done a workup (likely a heart ultrasound and ECG) they should be able to explain the condition to you fully. If questions pop up later you should be able to call back and ask them. I would ask though what medications might be necessary?, would any diet changes help?, what is the prognosis?, how often should he be re-checked? What follow-up with the regular vet is necessary?
