im glad it turned out ok!!! just be careful with what shampoo you use. Some cheap shampoos will ruin your color especially dandruff shampoos. My friend Natalie is a hairdresser and yells at me for using cheap shampoos after she dyes mine. lol I had blonde highlights in my naturally black hair for awhile and i couldnt afford to get them fixed so we dyed it all back to black with RED mixed in it .. i stopped using the expensive shampoo i bought with her and now its fading out. I really like what its doing though because its black but in the sun its RED and some of my highlights are coming through again. lol

Warning ... If you are thinking of coloring your hair at home & you live in a place where someone might turn off your water, without telling you first, read this horror story.

I have medium brown hair. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to be blond, so I colored it at home. I loved it ... for about 2 weeks. Then my roots started to show. I decided to do a root touch up.

My hair is really short so when I tried to put the bleach & developer on just the roots, it got on the whole hair strand. Right when I was ready to rinse it out...the water in my apartment complex was turned off for a repair.

There I was...nude, with beach on my hair & no water to rinse it off. There was nothing that I could do but wait. After about a half hour the water was turned back on. I leaped into the shower & rinsed the bleach off of my burning scalp & hair. When I looked into the mirror, I was shocked to see that my hair was almost pure white. All it's color was gone.
Gulp

I dyed my poor fried hair back to brown and have been brown ever since. I still laugh when I think back to that moment when I realized ... " there's no water!"

Let this be a warning to you...make sure you will have water if you are going to color you hair at home.

Even when it was happening I was laughing. It just seemed so silly that "vanity" was what got me into that mess.

XOCats- Wow, I probably would have poured milk, or pickle juice, or anything in my fridge on my hair, not that it would have done any good. Yikes! Next time buy a couple gallons of water, just in case
I used to dye my hair all the time. I haven't in a while though. I used Manic Panic dyes most of the time.

I'm glad your hair turned out great! Purple is always a fun color.

I had never had colored my hair, dark brown, except to cover gray until I started at my present job. First it was dark red with lighter highlights, now it is dark burgundy, and I love it! It matches my scrubs that I usually wear to work.
I pass, on purple HAIR. A girl at work has done it and she looks like crap. Of course, all of that hardware hanging out of her face doesn't help.

For myself, I'll stick with blonde or red.

Ha, something like that happened to me in college. I was in the dorm and about 2 minutes from rinsing my color out and the fire alarm went off!!! We all knew there was no fire, but we all had to go outside anyway. I was out there about 10 -15 minutes and we still didn't get back in. I was really starting to worry, lol. So finally my friend and I ran to the next dorm and I felt like such a total ass begging to use their shower!!! Sad part is I think it's one of the few times I've dyed my hair that the color came out perfect, lol.

Shem- I've always wanted to do the technicolor hair. I bet it looks awesome!!!
