Is 7 am too early...

to be out mowing my lawn? I want to do it before its hot and I have to go to work. Quiet hours end at 7 am.... should I just go out and do it? lol
post #2 of 27
Well if quiet hours end at 7 I suppose you could do whatever you want from then on. If I was your next door neighbor though I would not be a happy camper. My guess is most people are probably gone at work or something anyway.

You must have lower dewpoints than we do. At 7am the grass is still so wet from the dew that mowing it is pretty much out of the question. I'd say that during the week 7am would be fine. You wouldn't want to do it on a Sunday morning of course, and Saturday would be a bit iffy.

Well its almost 730 now lol. I know one of my neighbors sleeps late but that is until like noon and I am NOT waiting that long lol. It would be toooooo hot by then.
If it were me, I would wait until 0900/0930 ish..... But thats because I have quite a few lazy bones living in my area so I try and keep the peace with them!

I think it would depend on whatever ordinance your town has regarding noise. My brother, in Connecticut, got in trouble for shoveling snow - (manually) before 7 am!!! The reason he was shoveling that early is he had to shovel his car out to get to work! After that he ended up parking in a commercial parking lot at night and walking the rest of the way home so if he needed to shovel he wouldn't bother anyone.

Since lawnmowers are so loud, I usually do mine on a weeknight after work (after 6pm) and well it's easier then, cuz it's not "as hot". And, I can surely bet that my lazy neighbors have finally woken up. They sleep in til about noon on weekends & get all riled at me if I mow my lawn early in the morning.

So I guess it depends on yer neighbors. If they rise early & are active, nah it's not too early; if they're night owls, they might get peeved.

Law here says 7 am and I would do it in the evening but I work 2 pm until sometimes 2 am....

but whatever. I can't even start the stupid thing now. I'm so miffed it isn't funny.

Awww

What about tomorrow morning then? If you wake anyone up then they will have to get over it!

lol. We'll see. I told hubby to do it himself. If I work as late as I've had to this past week I'm not going to get up and mow in the morning. I've only been at this job 3 days and I hate it so much that I have an upset stomach knowing that I have to go in 4 days this week. Is that right? I mean.... to hate something so much when I've only been there 3 days??!!!

Do you not know anyone with a goat?!

On a serious note Beth, don't get yourself worked up over your job like that chick!, it just isn't worth it for your health

LOL. I'm actually half tempted to buy one of the old fashioned blade mowers that you push along, not the gas pusher that we have....

Yeah the goat

If its a weekday and after 7 is ok I would go for it. Plus I learned in my turf class that grass can be mowed if wet. Just make sure lawnmower blades are sharp. And keep mowed at a height of 2 1/2 to 3 inches (really) keeps down the weeds.

I feel bad that I dislike my job so much already. I've only been there 3 evenings. My shift is 2-10 but the earliest I have left has been 1130pm and one night I didn't get home until 2 am!!! I am in charge of an insane amount of patients and I'm on the floor all night with about 15 minutes to inhale my dinner. I actually went home sobbing one night. Normally I'm only going to be working 3 days a week and I think that I'll be okay with that because it means I'll have at least 3 days in a row to mellow out. I've hardly began to learn the paperwork for the job and there is so much that I have to learn!!! I seriously feel like a fish out of water. I know that I'm a little out of practice with not working in a year but this place is unreal. 43 patients!!! And of course they ALL get medication at 8 pm not to mention the 10 diabetics that I have.

About your job Beth....I'm so sorry I know how much you've looked forward to working....I'm so sorry this isn't working out as you'd hoped
post #17 of 27
Aww Beth, I was hoping that you would enjoy your new job! I feel bad for you because I know how it feels to have that sick feeling in your stomach because you dread walking into the place you work I would start looking for another job on my days off if I were you. Life is too short to stay miserable at a job.

As for your lawn, if your lawn doesn't have dew on it, I don't think 7am is too early. If it does wake someone up, they can always go back to sleep. If you lived in my neighborhood, I would drive over on my little red riding lawn mower and do it for you while you were at work

I am in a hot part of the states and understand the desire to beat the heat , but if I was your neighbor I would be angry The best part of the day may be at 7pm before the babies go to sleep and after dinner? I wouldn't do it at 7 am unless you don't mind having angry neighbors.
I'm up at 5:00 AM so I wouldn't mind.
I don't think it would bother me unless I happened to be in a really bad mood, or if it happened on a regular basis (or if I was on a day off and got woken that early!). Some people can get really stroppy about such things though!!

Sorry to hear about the job. I hated my old job after the first week, but it did get easier over time. I was never truely happy there, but I learned to live with it and ended up staying over 4 years. I guess it just depends on whether you think it'll get better as you learn the ropes, and whether you can get another job without too much hassle. Good luck whatever you decide

If I started mowing MY grass at 7pm I wouldn't be through until 11:30! It takes me 3 and a half hours, and that's on a riding mower!

OH Beth Honey, been there, done that with new jobs. Give it a couple of weeks and see if you still feel the same. Or, I could come get you and we could run off to Vermont for a nice vacation!

One thing i can say is

DO IT!

My neighbours do it at 7 - 8 am and as annoying as it is, most people just ignore it and sleep through it, after all its just like vaccuming!!!!!!!!
People mow their lawns that early around my neighbourhood, so why not!
Go for it .. I may sleep later in the morning when a dog whose parents didnt teach him not to bark at the wind blowing doesnt wake me up... But I have a medical issue that keeps me up and I wouldnt mind
post #26 of 27
7am is a whole lot better than 6am which is when our neighbor across the road would do it! Nieghbor worked 3rd shift and had just got home, dad worked 2nd and was deep in sleep! This was back in the early 1960s and that's when he bought an air conditioner - not only for the cool but to drown out the sound of the mower!

To be honest I'd be really annoyed if someone woke me up mowing the lawn at 7:00 A.M. Anything before 9:00 A.M. is too early, IMO.
