My cats (one male and one female) have been together for over a year. Neither of them are fixed and I am wondering why she will not allow him to get her pregnant when she is in heat? Does anyone know why???

Well I am not an expert but maybe she doesnt like him in that way ... May I ask why they arent fixed?? Are they purebreeds your trying to breed??
He may not be experienced enough to know when to take her. If you watch the way they court, the female is very aggressive at the start (and at the end too)
But if you are not breeding, it is a good idea to fix them both. There are lots of unwanted cats out there and you wouldn't want to add to the problem.
