Hello there,

My name is Heni,25 years old, I live in Toronto and just recently adopted a female cat from the Humane Society. She was found curled up in the cold, had no name and is 1 1/2 years old. She was in a really bad condition, skin and bones, and was actually a birthday present from my sister and parents. They wanted to get me a kitten, and we looked at quite a few including pure breds, but when we saw this cat we just fell in love with her.

She was listed as a silver tabby. We got all kinds of things for her and I got to bring her home the same night. She had diarrhea kept sneezing, but we didn't mind, she was our little baby now, and did everything to make her feel comfortable in her new home. We struggled to find a name that suits her, and 10 days later we finally named her Maya. She had a vet appointment a week after we brought her home, the same vet that looks after my sister's dog and her two cats while they were alive, my parent's dog, and my sisters mother in law's 4 cats. Maya was put on antibiotics, her diarrhea just wasn't getting better and plus as soon as we raised our hands to reach for a cup or something she would start running, so the vet said she was probably beaten beacuse she had scars and what not on her body. Prior to the appointment we told the vet she is a silver tabby about 1 1/2 years old. When we took her to the vet, the vet juts looked at her and said, that this isn't a silver tabby. She kept looking and looking at Maya, I didn't really care what she was, and finally the vet said to us, that she is an Egyptian Mau. I didn't know anything about cat breeds, so that didn't really say much to me, I did think that she looked a bit different due to her spots, which were not very round but more bean shaped in places, and some were real close to each other, and she did have stripes on some parts of her body....She had these really big green eyes, black paws, back of her legs were solid black as well, and she had this surprised look on her face all the time. She was very talkative, not meowing, but this weird little sound. After coming home I still couldn't believe it, I wondered why anyone would abandon a pure bred cat? And how come the humane society listed her as a silver tabby? I did some research and she definately did fit the description to the dot. I just had to call the vet, as I kept wondering if anyone will be looking for her. The vet (who is a foster parent to cats and dogs) said that sadly breeders sometimes do abandon the cats that are not show cats, or are not good for breeding since their markings are not perfect, also maybe they couldn't sell her or get the price they wanted because she wasn't "perfect", so most likely they just got rid of her. She says she was a foster parent to Himalayan kittens, that were just abandoned infront of her office. Two of the kittens were deaf.

People can be so cruel, I just honestly cannot believe it.

We had Maya spayed, as she wasn't when we got her, it was weird to see her little spotted belly.

She is much better now, started gaining weigth and is starting to look like a healthy cat. She is very social, follows me around no matter where I go, and I am so happy that she loves us and is this attached to us only after 3 months of being with us. She gets one half of the bed, we sleep on the other half, she wakes me up at 7am every morning, I think she wants to groom my hair as she starts licking my hairline and makes sure that my hair is all slicked back in one direction. Loves playing with balls, and surprisingly hasn't touched the leather chairs, but loves the pink sofa in the living room and the bedroom mattress. We just take her everywhere we go, she loves being in the car, and is happy no matter where we go, just as long as she is with us.
I rescued her, and she rescued me from my obsessive cleaning....I think you all know what I mean
