My husband and I always sing to the cats. It probably makes them feel like royalty because we always try to amuse them. We made up silly songs to each other all throughout our life together, and sometimes I burst into silly songs at work--but thankfully I have bosses and co-workers with a sense of humor.

Does anyone else do this? We make up lots of different melodies and when we find a good one we stick to it.

The song for blossom goes like this, "what a lovely lady lady lady you are! pretty eyes and pretty paws, special lovely lady."

The song for Billy goes like this, "B-i-l-l-y, he's our fella man! He knows how to play and where the trouble is. Billy! Billy! He's a loving inspiration."

Also I recently bought some conga drums and I will play a drum soundtrack when they play or fight with each other while my husband narrates: "the rare white panther of the serrengeti has found its prey and moves in for the kill. . . " we laugh for hours, but we really like music and dittys.

Anyone else do anything similar with their babies?

I pick them up and sing " You are my sunshine "

Sometimes i'll sing when their just sitting looking at me, but then they turn their heads away as if to say "she's off again! "

I used to sing to Willy all the time. He loved it and would get all cute and purry. I sing "My Girl" by the Temptations to Katie, which seems to make her feel special. Gracie runs and hides when I sing. Haven't tried with Pete.

Ours think we are crazy sometimes too! They give us that look like, "humans are SO weird," but we know that secretly they LOVE it!

Yup, and he sings to me.

Snickers "trills".... it's kind of a mix between a really high pitched Meow and a high pitched Purr. He does it when he wants attention; sometimes he'll do it in the middle of the night as he's snuggling next to my face. I trill back to him, he will trill again; I'll trill, he'll trill. He sings so pretty!!!

I make things up when I sing to Guinness

Sometimes I sing, "Smelly Cat" (you know, the one from Friends) othertimes I just sing... "Guindaloo...Guindaloo...lalala lalala"

And in return, he looks at me as though I am a nutter!

My husband and I sing along with CD's in the house and that doesn't seem to affect them. Take that back, if you sing while looking at one of them, they think you're bonkers. We're a very musical household. I DO know that when my husband plays saxophone or I play my oboe, they freak out and hide. Not exactly a vote of confidence for our playing!

Living in the land of not enough time
When I was socializing my 2 boys at 8 weeks, I used to sing to them. They used to sit and stare at me. Every once in a while I'll still sing the ditty...

Here's Mommy with Pipsqueek and Frantic in the kitchen
Mommy's washing dishes, Frantic's chasing Pipsqueek Pipsqueek's chasing Frantic. (or whatever they were doing at the time) Aren't we a happy family.

Anything that pops into my mind gets sung to them now.

Fred loves me to sing to him, the others could care less. I sing along with cds while I am cleaning or cooking, and Fred likes me to hold him and sing to him. All of them love my s/o's guitars, even if they are just sitting in the stands, they will give them kitty loves. If he sits on the couch and plays, they will jockey for position next to him.

Whenever Eppie's cuddled up to me, I sing to her "Good Company" from the cartoon Oliver&Company ("You and me together will be forever you'll see, we'll always be good company, you and me, just wait and see") or this song called "Oh" by Dave Matthews ("I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow"). She seems to enjoy it

To Cosette, I sing an altered version of "Little Red Corvette" (by Prince) called "Little Black Cosette."
"Little black Cosette, kitty you're much too fast."

Mine both (well, esp. Mik!) absolutely LOVE it when I sing to them!
I pick them up, sing whatever is on and dance with them in my arms... and they purr away and give me headbutts.

My husband had his bass guitar leaning against the amp the other night and Mika would paw at the string then jump when it made a sound. She did this for about 15 minutes. It was the cutest thing.

Yep, we're guilty. We take songs and change the words around to make them about our cats and sing them to them (usually badly). I also tend to sing regular songs to them or myself as I'm working around the house. Oddly, if I start singing songs from the musical "Cats" they all come running and start meowing at me. (I swear...it's true!)

There's no place like home
I alter words to songs and sing them to mine. They each have their own songs, mostly simple.

For Muddy (sung to the tune of "Fish Heads"):
Muddy....Muddy....Rolly-polly Muddy.....
Muddy....Muddy....Pick him up......Yum!

Koko gets a song from Kill Bill (the one in the bar when she takes on the Crazy 88's): It just repeats "Koko" over and over again.

Stumpy gets a distorted version of Jeepers Peepers (Stumpy-Lumpy).

Ellie Mae (our OTB dog) was clearly "Brown Eyed Girl". We sung it to her so often that we did so when we had her euthanized to keep her calm. We cry every time we hear that song now.

I can't remember the others - too early in the morning.

It's so reassuring to see that I'm not the only nutcase that makes up songs for their cats. I usually pick up on tune and put my own lyrics to them
Sometimes I make up the tune, too.

McKenzie likes "High Hopes"

George gets " George of the Jungle and a George song I made up from an Old Navy commercial. Oh, and sometime I sing him the theme from Jaws complete with hand shark. He hates that and usually tries to rip my hand off

Lizbeth has an original song - Lizbeth Annnn, Lizbeth Ann, Everybody loves Elizabeth Annnnnn

Mama - Just loves the Kitty Cat Dance song (off the internet)

Megan's song is the "I Love You" kitty song off the internet
