Hello all! This is my first post here... (I joined just after my Mama Cat (Rhiannon) had her first kitten, a beautiful little boy!

The problem? 1: He hasn't yet nursed...he's probably 20 minutes old, and has yet to nurse. We've pushed him toward her nipple (I found several sites saying that)

Problem 2? Her next baby, on it's way out appears to be breech... how long do we let this go before "helping" ???

Go figure, the one time I need these darn labor sites I can't find them

So long as the first baby is kept warm, he will be alright for now. Allow Momma cat to complete delivery and it is probably that she will take over once she is through.

Breech births do happen - they are not at all uncommon. If the baby stays in the birth canal for longer than a couple of minutes and your girl is pushing with no luck at delivering him, then seek an ER vet immediately.

For now, you can check out this post -

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46743

for some more info ...

Hope this helps and best of luck with your girl and her babies.

Ah, good - Momma got him out on her own! Just keep them warm until she's done and my guess is that she will take over from there proud as she can be.

OK, now all that being said ... are you a breeder?

Thank you so very much!

1 boy, 1 girl
(so far) I have no idea if there are more...

I am not a breeder, Rhiannon was an outdoor cat, she belonged to our neighbor, who passed away 2 months ago. We kept feeding her, and figured she was probably fixed, considering she was mostly outdoors... stupid of us to just assume!

She came around about 3 weeks ago HUGE as a house!! So we figured she was pregnant and pulled her inside... it's been a transition!

We are not breeders, nor do we ever want kittens again! We will have mama fixed ASAP and the youngins will be fixed before they leave our care (assuming we don't keep them... but either way FIXED ASAP!)

Mama is doing well cleaning up the second baby, while baby number 1 is well on it's way to nursing!! (I can post photos tomorrow) and a third one is on the way
This is so exciting!

Baby #1 (Girl) seems to be crying alot, is this normal/ok ?? I'm reading through your article as I type; but not that far yet...

While I won't say it is normal, it isn't uncommon for the babies to cry a little ... being born is somewhat of a shock to them and of course, she is probably still wet and cold. Just put her with the other kitten close to Mom but not in the way (I usually move them up right behind her neck while she is still delivering - that way, she can see them and feel them there, but they don't get in the way of her doing her job).

Glad you are going to get everyone taken care of as soon as you can. It seems to be an evening where not everyone feels the same way you and I do about things.

I need to scoot along and get some sleep but I will check in here again in the morning for an update. Until then, best of luck and I will look forward to seeing those pictures!

Night Night for now,

~gf~

Thank you so much for your help!!

The little ones are nursing, and a 3rd appears to be coming soon! (Mama is breathing heavy and starting her same pattern!)

Is there anyway to know how many kittens she will have and/or when she will be done having them?

(It's pushing 1:30 am; almost an hour since kitten #2... She appeared to be laboring again for awhile; but it has subsided...)

I'm afraid to go to sleep; but have to be up in 6 hours

She has settled down a LOT!! Mostly cuddling with the babies!

She is breathing REALLY heavy, and she's had a few instances where she appears to be contracting! (Ok, she is contracting!) It's been an hour... so I hope it's ok!! She's contracting more and more now...

Sorry for all the questions!

Is it ok if I go to sleep before long? will they be ok throughout the night?? (Mama and babies are confined to one room, where our other animals are not allowed in...)

The hind legs of baby #3 are out!!

The first two are dark (Mama is silver, with some white) and they look like her... this one has ligheter colored legs! (Although that's all we can see!)

Ok, she's finally licking #3 (I think too much pushing!)

Although 3 definately seems smaller and weaker than the other two
(Please keep your fingers crossed!)

Fingers are definitly crossed for #3 - Sending lots of vibes to all three and Mumma.

Tell us once she has finished cleaning #3 if she has any more contractions. How are #1 & #2 doing?

Don't apoligise.

Ok, number 4 is here too... could she have been ignoring 3, because she was already pushing???

Number 3 is breathing and kicking... should we wait a few minutes for her to clean up #4 before we worry too much about #3??
