At my workplace in the alley where everyone parks, a few yards away is the citys property. we have some wild cats around and i feed them on my own time and my own food that i bought. Even on my day off. I don't even feed them on my workplace property. i feed them in the alley next to the trash can Well now they are trapping the cats and saying that if anyone is caught feeding the cats they will be wrote up and maybe fired. I don't see how they are allowed to do this. I think it is animal cruelty when they trap a cat and taken to the pound and a few days later killed. some of the cats they are trapping are still nurseing the babies. if they caught a mama cat the kittens will starve. i was told to stop but i asked them if i didn't work there and just a person that fed the cats, are they going to hunt me down and sue me for feeding the cats. Please can i have your opinion? Thank you

Who is trapping the cats? Is it Animal Control or the people who work near the alley?

Try to find a local group that does TNR (trap, neuter, return) and/or cat rescue. These are most often small, volunteer groups who don't advertise, so you'll need to do some digging. Call local vets offices and shelters - ask if they know of individuals or groups who are doing TNR in the area.

Hopefully, you'll get some info. Call the person, or group, and tell them about the situation and see if you can get their help. If you can volunteer to help trap, or transport the cats for spay/neutering, or can just make a donation, it will help tremendously, and quite frankly, will make the rescue group more inclined to assist you.
Tell them up front what you are willing/able to do.

Thank you so much for caring about these poor kitties! You have a good heart and I hope you'll be able to find help for them. Please let us know how it goes.

my workplace is the one that called animal control. i even called them and told them that i didn't like what they are doing. our local vet used to spay stray cats for free but they are not able to do it anymore.

I thkn its a bunch of crap. These cats have every rite to live as we do. I would say walk across the strret and feed them there. Then your company can do crap about it? Rite? well I think you should just stand up to ur boss, bu ti don't want you to get fired. So i dunno. I guess i woul dtry and find the satry kittens rite away and take them home so they don't have to worry if there mom is coming back or not? Just my imput.

I think this is a sad reality of feral management. Just feeding a colony does not help the problem, it actually can attract even more cats and cause fighting. Feeding the strays is just the beginning of managing a colony. They need to be spayed and neutered.

I agree with KTLynn, that your best bet is to call all the local vets and ask for a referral to someone who is doing TNR (trap-neuter-release). Your local animal control may also have information. Someone may already be working to solve this type of problem. Also go to Alley Cat Allies for information about managing strays. Maybe you can educate your boss an co-workers about the best way to handle this issue.

And yes, if you can catch the kittens, it would be nice if you could take them home and tame them. Good luck!

i have cought several kittens through the years and gave them away to people. these cats have been there for the last 8yrs since ive been there. They company caught cats before and they started getting mice in the cafateria and little by little other cats started coming back and mice went away. i told them that once you get rid of the cats mice will be back. another coworker and i want to take donations to get the females fixed but there are not that many cat lovers out there. i still feed them but further in the alley and trying to train them to eat some where else. Thank you everyone for you input!!

Yep, she nailed it- feeding cats is not going to help this situation. Vetting and spaying and neutering will. I always try and get people to understand that feeding only is not the answer- TNR and then managing the colony is the way to go-

We had a group outside of our workplace that Buzz came from. A rescue group came and TNR'd them with the condition that we would keep them fed and watered. Unfortunately all of Buzz's litter mates died from distemper but we got lucky. There are 3 adult females left but are very well taken car of by our workers.
