I'm really shocked at hearing that!, wait until i tell this to the next person at my place who whines on about the holidays

Hope my Director lives in a house thats valued at 1/2 a million £, but he's never been as tight as this boss of yours
For christmas he books a local pub for us, with a buffet and a free bar, and we also get an extra weeks wages as a christmas bonus.

But believe it or not we still have the odd one who has a bad word to say against him!
But when i hear them, i always say "you know where the door is!", because theres not many like him.

ooooh what a subject! It has taken me a while to find a job that I like, and even though I'm still somewhat of a peon it's challenging and fun most of the time. We earn our time off 8.6 hrs each month we work, so that roughly translates to 2 2/3 wks with the "personal day" freebie they give... same thing with sick time.

I've had jobs that made me get a stress headache when I pulled into the parking lot. I'd sit in the car for a minute staring at the building not wanting to go in, but I trudged along. Most of my jobs have included heavy phone work such as answering customer service lines... thankless, hard work and they pay the least. There's nothing quite like being chewed a new one from someone having a bad day a couple thousand miles away, or someone just completely looney, and having to bear it without so much as an off word all in the name of good customer service.

My current job started that way but thankfully I was promoted away from that stupid phone line in just over a year. Thank god because I was about to lose it. Now I sit quietly, check the team's work, and do my own work (which can be a little like being a private investigator at times, so it's fun)... and take maybe five phone calls a day, at best
I have the best of both worlds; I basically do the same job as the rest of the team but don't have to answer the phone, and I have authority of a supervisor without having to supervise anyone directly. They consider the position somewhat of a "supervisor in training"... but I'd much rather pass up any supervisor job to keep this cushy one!

Oh yes, pay... I work for State government, so while I got a nice starting salary I get measly little raises whenever they see fit to budget for it. I lucked out, and got two promotions inside of two years so I'm making good money anyway... but I don't see it going up much.

I sit on my butt, in front of my computer at home.
I love my job!
I have a vitamin/supplement/spa essentials distributorship, and I also build websites as an income earning hobby.

I like my boss, I'm probably overpaid for what I do, get 3 weeks vacation plus 4 personal holidays, a large bonus each spring and can work from home from time to time. There are only a few people that I work with (and I work with hundreds) that I don't really like, but they are easily tolerated.

I hate my job. Been doing it for 25+ years and am bored and sick and tired of office politics. Individual personalities are great, but work politics override them too often. My boss knows one of the few things that motivates me is solving extremely complicated problems and gives them to me as often as she can. In between those times, I just want to nap on the job. The only reason I stay is for the pay right now.

Overall, I like my job. I have a project that I love, my boss and my administrator have provided me opportunities to grow professionally (especially in a supervisory role), I have a good relationship with my boss and my co-workers, and I have good benefits (considering I have several chronic health problems). Occasionally, my boss gets manic or my co-workers get angry. But over time I've learned to deal with these issues and let them pass. Now, I'm learning to deal with the bureaucracy that exists in any large organization. That's been a little difficult recently.

Aside from my job as a student, I really love both of my side jobs!
There's obviously not much money in teaching group exercise classes but we're all given the same equal pay and we don't have ANY taxes taken out! No taxes are removed because we work for the universities recreation center and since we're students (most of us) working in a governmental institution we suffer no taxes! It's really wonderful. Also, I get to choose what days, hours, and classes I want to teach. There's a great workout in it each time I go to work and we get paid our regular per class amount for any meetings! I even got paid a full class amount for volunteering to get up at 5:45 am and lead the UCF chapter of Relay for Life in a warm up...and I only had to do something for 15 minutes! Also, there's never a threat of working on a holiday and all of my coworkers are really fun and nice people!

The visitation center is great as well! My coordinator is an incredibly understanding woman and a friend to all of us. The hourly pay is almost equal to my per class pay at the gym which is great, and once again I never work on holidays. Everyone that works there is truly wonderful as well. I feel like I've made some great friends there and this job also gives me the added benefit of some very practical experience for my future as a mental health counselor!

My jobs are fairly atypical for a college student and I couldn't be happier about that. I feel so grateful to have fallen into such wonderful work environments while still in school!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
I do very much enjoy my job, and with the exception of working with kitties all day long, making a career out of being here on TCS, or perhaps cruise ship Nursing
would choose to stay in my present job!

Hey did you know some US columnists are saying that one reason the EU constitution isn't passing is cause some countries don't want to work very hard...seriously. They are saying they want 6 weeks off a year and heavy benefits when other parts of the world are working 70 hour weeks and will outdo us all (like India for instance who is so hungery to improve their lifestyles...) I don't know..I mean I don't approve of how little vacation we get in the US, plus who cares how many hours you work if you do a bad job? I know many people who work overtime and don't really do anything.

Marge i can believe it, because like i say theres some real moaners here at my place, but when ever they leave they realise that the grass isn't always greener, but at the same time i'm not for this EU constitution.

Over here at the moment theres a lot of the call centres for our banks that have been closed down, and all calls are being transferred to India because they say it's cheaper, but if anyone has a query on their account, sometimes they havent a clue what were talking about?!.

Here our men in the factory work overtime on a tuesday and thursday, on saturday they get paid time and a half, and if they work sundays it's double time, so you can imagine what they make?!.

I am curious why you aren' t for the constitution, or others you know who aren't.

I am content for the time being but always looking. It's not the environment or the work or anything that I don't like, but I went to school for something else and that something else is my passion so of course anything but that isn't going to be my ideal job. But for the time being I like where I work, am OK with what I do, and the people I work with are easy to get along with for the most part.

For me it's the thought of being ruled by Brussels, and the transfer of power to another country (in effect, rather than the UK making it's own decisions). I'm not hugely up on politics, maybe a big part of the problem is that we haven't been properly informed of the possible ramifications if we say yes. Therefore, if in doubt, say no.

Anyway, on topic, I quite like my job. I'm an accountant so I get my own office and free un-checked internet access, plus the UK usual 4 weeks holiday, bank holidays and a reasonable Christmas bonus. I mostly get ignored at work as no one understands what I do and they all think I need peace and quite in order to work (I just get interrupted with the odd cup of coffee!) I also work from home on occassion, whilst I have Corrie on in the background!

Ideally I'd love to work with animals, but an accountancy degree isn't much use in that field!

Since I work for one of the "BIG 3" automotive you can guess my benefits are pretty good. 4 weeks vacation with the option of "buying" 2 more weeks (w/mgmt approval however) 12 extra holidays, good health insurance, profit sharing good deals on any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Volvo/Mazda/Land Rover or Jaguar.
But my office is closing and recombining with another Sept 30 of this yr.
I am very tired of what I do, very rigid management, no advancement opportunities so I am looking forward to October 1st (and yes a very good severance pkg too!!

I love and hate my job at the same time. I work for a small but very busy veterinary hospital. I love working with (most of) the animals. It's been really fun and interesting to learn everything. I will be there a year in October and I know pretty much all the basic stuff a tech should. I can place iv caths, draw blood, perform dentals, run lab tests, etc. So it's great in that respect. My bosses are so nice and so are most of my co-workers. I get free animal care.

But I work way too long and hard for the money I get. Most days are 8 - 7. With no lunch break or anything. Just constant working.. From am appointments to surgery then pm appointments. Unfortunately, in that line of work you just don't make good money.

I just recently applied to McGraw-Hill for some desk job. I don't particulary want to take it but I need the money. We barely pay the bills. I'd rather work a normal job, make better money and actually have time to myself. And maybe volunteer with my extra time.

I must be one of the lucky few...

I really love my job - I run a pub restaurant for a large chain here in England. I get to live free above my work, all my bills are paid, I get free health care, mileage allowance and five weeks holiday a year, plus the chance to earn bonus.

BUT... I do work hard! yesterday was a 17 hr day and today was a 13 hr day for example, and goodness knows what the weekend will bring ( its half term here).

I wouldn't swap jobs with anyone. I have been in the hospitality trade for 15 yrs, and if you get tired of a place you can transfer to another, and the company pay your moving costs too...

Love from Angie

Marge have a look in IMO for my answer to that, but it's basically the same as what Purity said.

As the song goes " There'll always be an England ", not if this happens their won't be IMO
