I
this time of year... fresh fruit like strawberry and watermelon actually taste like fruit when in season!
I'm so looking forward to knowing that when I open up a container of strawberries or slice the watermelon, it will actually look, smell and taste as it should!

I won't do a poll this time, as Fwan added one just a few weeks ago... but just couldn't hold back my excitement about all the fresh produce!

Vespa,

I was JUST thinking this the other day! I love strawberries, but I hate when you buy a batch and they just don't taste as good as you know they can. Bananas and apples get a little played-out over the winter time

But Jenn? Why is this IMO?
I know, Ash!!! Too funny... I'm really zoned from sleeping pills but am eating watermelong... the thought came to my mind and I wanted to post it before I crash into bed. No worries, I IM'd a Mod so they'll be on their way soon.

There! More comfortable here?

Yes, I am just salivating for the fresh local berries
-- the best, best, best thing in the world, when they're fresh and local. I don't bother otherwise, 'cuz they're just such a disappointment.

I hope you have a great sleep! And that it doesn't include dreams about fruit and IMO

Have a great night sweetie!

I use to have the same strawberries problem where they do not taste as good as they look. But it can be solved VERY easily. The main problem with strawberries is that they may be too sour rather than sweet. (YUCK).

So might as well confront the problem head on. If the Strawberries is not sweet simply pour a small bowl of liquid chocolate and dip the strawberries in them and eat it. If you are with a significant other, it is romantic if not it taste just as good!

Ideally, you should get chocolate, melt it into liquid, pour on the strawberries and place it in the fridge until cooled. If you microwave remember not to burn the chocolate. Heat on medium then let it cool then heat on low. But that may be too much of a hassle so chocolate syrup may have to do.

We have fresh tomatoes!!! I brought the little plants home and my BF did all the work. He grows the BEST and sweetest tomatoes! All I've done is pick them!

Yes, we start talking about fresh strawberries several weeks before they are available. Just a couple more weeks!
On my way home after work I pass some farms that grow them so I pick up a 4 qt. basket every second night until there are no more to be gotten. Then we don't eat strawberries for another year. These farms have a "drive-thru". I don't even have to get out of the car. Then we order litres of whipping cream from the local store (my husband likes the whipping cream without preservatives and additives). He whips a serving bowl of cream and adds some berries. I prefer mine just washed, cut up with a bit of sugar and no cream but I like to eat them with homemade bread and butter. This happens EVERY night until the berries are finished. Then he impatiently waits for the Red Haven peaches and repeats the above process. He goes to the farmer's market every saturday morning and buys 3 baskets (4 qts. each) of peaches.

Mmmmmm summer. If it weren't for all the construction it would be great!

Another favourite of mine is when the baby vegetables are coming - baby potatoes, green beans, small peas and small carrots all cooked together then drained and then I add cream and butter and make like a soup. I can eat 3 or 4 big bowls in one sitting.
