I like a lot of indie films... some of which have turned into critically acclaimed box office hits!

For somewhat recent films I would say: Lost Highway, The Believer, The Hours, Rushmore, Pollock, The Pianist, Leaving Las Vegas, A Beautiful Mind, American History X, The Usual Suspects, Traffic, Best in Show, Monster, Mystic River, Before Sunset, Napoleon Dynamite, The Red Violin, Schindler's List, Hotel Rwanda, American Splendor, Blow, Million Dollar Baby, Sideways, Sylvia, The Aviator, White Oleander, Maria Full of Grace, Magnolia, Dogtown and Z Boys, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Royal Tenenbaums, Mulholland Drive.

I especially loved Ed Harris in Pollock and The Hours, Patricia Arquette in Lost Highway, Ryan Gosling in The Believer, Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind, Don Cheadle in Hotel Rwanda, Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects, Gwyneth Paltrow in Sylvia, Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, Paul Giamatti in American Splendor and Sideways, Johnny Depp in Blow (and Crybaby!
) and both Nicolas Cage and Elizabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas.

I am an absolute and serious movie buff!!!
I think that is part of what drove my last BF away.
I could spend an entire weekend in watching quality movies

Last weekend I saw the new Crash (2005) in the theatre, which wasn't so enjoyable as it was confrontational. It had some very interesting and valid points, some of which was obviously overdramatized, but I'm think now that I actually quite liked it.

This weekend I'm going to see two new movies: Lords of Dogtown, a story based on lives of a number of 1970's skateboarders. And Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, a story loosely based around lives of a group of teenaged girls. A chick flick, I'm sure.

My all-time favorite movies are Say Anything and Dead Alive. I can watch those two movies over and over. Both get me out of a bad mood. My favorite genre is horror- specifically zombie movies. I love Fulci and Romero especially. I can watch pretty much any kind of movie and enjoy it though- sappy love stories, horror, epic, comedy, really stupid comedy, independent, action, etc, but horror has always been my favorite, even as a kid. I love classic horror movies as well, especially movies involving ghosts, aliens, and vampires (The Uninvited, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the Haunting, Carnival of Souls, etc). I also love Hitchcock and those types of thrillers. My big brother had a huge influence on my taste in movies, and music for that matter.

Under the cats, mostly.
Hrmn... lemme see..... LOTR trilogy, Star Wars trilogy, Steel Magnolias, Butterfly Kiss, Gladiator, Troy, Joan of Arc, Attila the Hun, you name it. White Noise was actually based on the true story and works of a doctor and wife team - but the horror side of the film was vastly twisted and exaggerated and held no appeal for me whatsoever. If was to watch a film on the paranormal/supernatural, I'd prefer something a bit closer to the truth.. The true story was better all by itself, without Hollywood trying to "adapt" it for the public by adding their own frills.

Yep, seen Quadrophenia a few times.
I forgot to add the Harry Potter films... love them all!

Shem, I'm guessing you like Tim Burton stuff, being the goth girl that you are.
For music, do you like Bauhaus or The Sisters of Mercy?

Everything sci-fi... all Star Wars, all Star Trek, "Alien" and "Aliens" (but not the ones after where Ripley saves Newt), The Abyss, and (dare I say it) E.T. (altho E.T. makes me cry)

I'm a major Tom Hanks fan so anything with Tom in it gets my vote: You've Got Mail, Forrest Gump, The Money Pit, Splash, Castaway, etc.

American Beauty is one of my favorites... whenever I need a great laugh and to be reminded how life REALLY is ("look closer"), I watch that flick!

80's flicks!!! Remember GHOST? I watched it not too long ago, Whoopie kills me every time I watch it!

Bueller... Bueller... Bueller... St. Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink.

All the Arnie movies; except for that Christmas one that was so un-funny. Him in True Lies was *awesome*.

Cold Mountain. Cuz I got to see Jude Law's BUTT.
I mean the acting was good but after I saw his butt, I couldn't concentrate on the ending of the movie...

Independence Day will always be a fave. I know it's corny but when Will Smith punches that alien and says "Welcome to Earth"... I remember the whole theater applauding.

My daughter & I are so totally looking forward to War of the Worlds... we saw the previews of it while watching Star Wars Ep III (twice), and wowwie I'm gonna be front & center for that one too!
