Last Monday I found 2 cute, abandoned kittens. They were about 3-4 weeks old, and appeared healthy. However I began to suspect that one was perhaps the "runt" of the litter. She was smaller than her sister, and not as strong. I fed her KMR with a dropper, cleaned her, and kept her warm. She loved to cuddle and cried when I put her down for too long.

On thursday, I was worried when I saw blood in her stool. So I took her to the vet the next day. She seemed weaker and I was beginning to worry. When the vet saw her, she said she probably wouldn't make it, but gave me some clay medicine and gave her fluilds.

For the next two days and nights, I cared for her around the clock. I kept her warm, fed her, gave her pedialyte, and held her.

On Sunday night, I came into her room and found that she could no longer stand on all four legs. This broke my heart, for I knew she might go soon. But I fed her some more pedialyte, and comforted her. She began to walk around again, and I named her Hope.

However, around 2am, I heard her crying and I came to her room to hold and pet her. She was very weak now. Everytime I left, she would cry. So I held her for about two hours, and she finally died in arms. I felt her last breath, and felt her little heart stop beating.

I was overcome with so much grief. Even though I had only known her for a week, I felt I had known her for 20 years.

I love you Hope, and I will never forget you.

It happens, it is a sad fact but it happens. Because of uncontrolled backyard breeding, cats are mating and passing on all sorts of problems and health issues to the kittens. Momcats will typically abandon sick kitties in the hopes that the rest of the litter will survive. You did what you could- at least she left this earth in the hands of someone who cared enough to try.

I know that "at least she had a few good days" is cold comfort when you really wanted her to have a wonderful life, but it is also terribly true. She died being loved, and there is someone to honor and remember her now. Thank you for trying.

It always seems that the kindest hearts get cut up the most. That little one was so lucky to find a warm, caring, loving person like you. She may not have made it at all anyway, but you made her last days warm, safe, filled with good food and at peace. You are to be commended warmly for your love.

I am very sorry for your loss. And I do hope that your little boy continues to thrive. It is heartbreaking to spend so much time with a kitten, and then to have to say goodbye.

Thank you for sacrificing your time & heart to try to save that precious baby girl! Her meows were answered by love & comfort and sometimes that is the best gift of all. Little Hope has crossed RB knowing she has a name & was loved. Some of my ancestors believed that those unborn are on the other side with those who once dwelled here, and if so, Hope is visiting right now with the lucky kitties of your future, and you can be sure you are being highly recommended!!! I hope that the sister that is left is thriving and will bring you much comfort & joy! Take Care, Susan

I am so sorry for your loss and like everyone else said, she spent her last days loved and cared for. Not everyone would have been as kind as you to take them in. My thoughts are with you and bless little Hope.
