Today when I was petting Puffy, I found a pea-sized lump on his back thigh. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it's definitely there. I'm going to get him to the vet for a check up, but I wanted to see if anyone has ideas before I go (won't be able to until next Thursday - pay day). The lump doesn't move with the skin, but seems to be attached to the muscle. It's hard too. It's located on his back thigh, fairly close to the edge of the muscle, near to his hiney. I read about vaccine induced tumors (he was vaccinted a few weeks back), but I don't know if that's where they vaccinated him (seems a wierd location for a vaccine). Puffy is very young (only 6 months old) so I was suprised to find this on him? Any ideas other than waiting to see what the vet says? I'm a worrier, and this is going to drive me crazy!

Most of the time vaccines are given in the rear thigh. It is the safest place to give them. Rabies especially will leave a small bump such as that one for up to a few months. They are usually very hard and don't get much bigger than a large pea. You need to keep an eye out for it getting any larger. If it was the vaccine, it will dissapear.

Sandie - Thanks for your quick reply. I hope that's all his lump is. He did get his shots about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I didn't see where the rabies shot went. I'm going to keep my eye on it and make sure it goes away. I hate the worry!

Well, my Kaos got his rabies on the 14th of November and his didn't show up until the 30th. So it took a few weeks to knot up on him. I am sure if you call the vet, they will look it up in the record and tell you where they gave which vaccine.
I know it's pretty scarey. The first time I had a cat that had a lump like that, I rushed her to the vet the next day. Now I am glad I know what to look for

I hope Puffy will be ok.
I remember when Fluffy was a kitten, she had a lump after getting a vaccination ..... it turned out to be from the vaccination. So, hopefully that is what Puffy has.

My cat has them too in both thighs but he didn't get his shots.
I found my dog up in 100 mile house last August and when we took him to the vet, they found 2 big lumps in his chest. They said that they were probably fat lumps, but they could also be cancer. His lumps have gone now, but I still always check to make
sure they didn't come back!

I don't know anything about this, but I hope Puffy will be okay.

Sounds like the good people here know what they are talking about.

I send you peace and light.
