Test your own bias (if any) on race, gender, sexuality, etc

Given the few topics on bias some people in society have over others, such as that on marriage, here is set of tests that examine those biases if any. It has a whole range of tests from your gender roles, to race, weight, religion, disability, etc.

The test is about 10 minutes long it is best done when you will not be distracted. It is a tad bit repetitive but it is very GOOD. So carry on with it. As such unless you are really interested you may want to look at the range of tests and pick one that most interests you.

This is the Harvard's Implicit Association Tests. Its basis is that not everyone proclaims their bias (if any) and there are many people who claim not to have any bias (sincerely) but subconsciously are biased to a certain extent.

Here is the main site. There are various site's linking to specific countries. If you just click on the research or demonstration button it sends you to the default US site. The other countries are Australia, India, UK, S.Africa, Canada and France. Some tests are unique to certain countries. Thus for example the Arab-Muslim tests or the US President test is unique to US.

You may have to register to actually see your results but one can click on the demonstration to take the tests but you may not get the results. I think that was how I got my results in the past. The test has been around for sometime.

The test itself is quite simple and if you have a strong bias, you will realise it during the test even without the results.

Very interesting on how they test - I haven't yet taken them all - but so far it has turned up no bias. Yeah for me!

"Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Democrats relative to Republicans" No big shocker there!

Ok....I am actually kind of sad that I took that test. I never thought that I would hold the only 2 biases that I was told I had......Apparently, I prefer Straight people automatically over Gay people, and I am gay. I also prefer Whites automatically over Blacks, and I always used to fundraise our school and communities March "Racism, Stop it!" campaigns.....
I still don't feel like I hold a bias though, so I'm sure I'll continue on in life...lol...just be a little depressed today.

Uh, oh - my results were "inconclusive".

I took the race questionare and these were the results :Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for European American relative to African American
Lol. I made 5 mistakes on the clicks maybe that had something to do with it.
I took the Arab test and this is what it said:Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Arab Muslims relative to Other People
I might go back and take some more later and find out lol.

Well, I only did the first one, the age one, and it came out pretty much as I expected, with a slight bias in favour of old people. I will definitely do the rest of them, but it'll have to wait until this evening.

Too many variables in the situation for any broad-brush answer or categorization to be meaningful, but it was an interesting endeavor into how digitally-responsive I still am !

It said that I "moderately" preferred young to old, but the appellations assigned to either/both categories didn't seem to have any ambiguity, or room for interpretation, so I don't know how those were factored in.

Interesting, and I will take the other tests when I have more time.

Right now, I have to get ahead of the mob that is coming up the path with torches, buckets of tar, feather pillows, and fence rails.

I suspect it is in response to my post on "Bi-Racial Unions"

What did I say ? ? ?

OK, so they have 100 of these. And I got two strange ones, I tell you what. I compared "Wisdom" with "Innocence" and Lawyers with Politicians. On the first, I identify more with Wisdom, and on the second I show no preference. My suspicion is that they get more info from the little "just take this quiz here, it doesn't mean anything 'cause you're all done now" questionnaire at the end than they do from the testing portion.

Oh, and you only get the more esoteric ones if you actually register, which I did.

well, if you do it twice, the second time you are probably going to be thinking more about your responses - and how to get the result you want!

The site won't work for me. Anyone else have any trouble?

This is so funny, me and my BF actually just saw this on TV and were going to look it up to do it.. I took a couple of tests and it said I suggest a moderate automatic preference for Private relative to Public, whatevet that means and that I have no conclusive preference for California over New York. Silly things.... I am definatly going to do more though and see what else there is...

I moderately prefer young to old...

They based it on how fast I typed?? Well the switched the things around! after typing one way for 3 minutes they switched it around and confused me :P

moderate association from male to science than female

I have a slight automatic preference for African americans over white americans

It says I have a slight preference for George bush. Bleh

Your data suggest little or no automatic preference for STRAIGHT PEOPLE relative to GAY PEOPLE

Duh :P I have like six online friends who are lesbians/gay, and two real life ones. :P blah.

No preference for thin or fat people :P

the other tests are useless and I am bored with this now so yeah :P
