This is a little segment called, "Did you know?" I'll give a few (hundred, lol) Did you know facts about cats. Please add any did you know's and educate us!

Did you know the genes a kitten inherits from his father will determine how friendly he becomes?

Friendly mothers are more likely to produce sociable kittens because they show their offspring that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Did you know a cat that has been to the vet may come back smelling very different and may be treated like a stranger by other cats that once got along with him? How to fix that problem? Separating them and swapping their scents with a cloth can help.

Ok, educate me! I love cat trivia, lol

Do you know that reflection you see when a light shines in a cat's eyes? It shines because of something in their eyes called tapetum lucidum
Thats all I have for now, I will try and post some more later!

Did you know:

The amount of socialization a kitten has with people while he is between 2 and 7 weeks old will determine how well he will interact with people later in life?

Cats that feel their home security has been breached my spray urine or scratch in strategic places to make themselves feel more secure? Things like newcomers, such as another animal, new baby and new people all can make them feel insecure.

Did you know Scientists have been able to isolate the chemical found in our cat's scent glands and has been actually reproduced synthetically and sold at stores to make our cats feel more comfortable in new environments such as moving to a new home? How cool.

Did you know that scientists are creating a hypo-allergenic cat, taking out some element that almost all people are allergic to? Soon even people allergic to cats can have a cat if they choose!

Did you know why cats like to sniff armpits?

From 101 Questions Your Cat Would Ask Its Vet If Your Cat Could Talk by Bruce Fogle

Many cats...choose to sleep on or even in bed with people.

When cats behave this way they are really behaving as kittens, seeking out the satisfying security of a mother....This close proximity brings them in contact with human odors, and armpits are particularly appealing.

....Immediately after birth the mother licks her kittens and her own nipples, laying down an odor trail for her kittens to follow to find food....

Human armpits are riddled with odor-producing glands.... One or more of these odors is ... so close to the odor of their mother's nipples that it stimulates the now adult animal to nestle, tread..., and suck. If humans don't like this activity, they should wash their armpits more frequently and use deodorant.

I didn't know about armpits, but I had a male cat that loved sticking his head in shoes, the stinkier the shoes, the more he loved them

My mom's cat is the same way. She loves my freshly removed shoes. My boyfriend's male cats (we call them the "Drones") love my pants. They rub their heads and cheeks all over them. They have also been known to bite my socks.

Did you know that cats can get sunburned? White cats are especially prone to skin cancer, particularly on their ears.

Black cats often turn somewhat brown in the summer because of the sun as well. Tyrosine and other nutrient deficiencies may also cause a black cat to turn reddish brown (see http://www.cat-world.com.au/Black.htm).

Wow, i didn't know that. Sunburned huh? That's very interesting! Did you know that cats get their source of vitamin D from the sun like we do, and the sun rays leave the vitamin D on their fur and they ingest the vitamin D by licking their fur!?? That's pretty cool.

I knew a white cat who had to have both his ears removed because of skin cancer, poor thing looked very odd!
