my 9 month old kitten is developing a scary behavior, he tries to climb or jump over the bannister on the second floor, it's 3 foot high and that leads to 20 foot landing on the bottom floor and that's suicide, is there a product that i can spray the bannister so he stays away from it?, he can go through between the bannister but he jumps over instead.

I don't think something sprayed will work too well. My experience with those types of cat deterrents is that they work only as long as they're damp. Have you tried Sticky Paws or double-sided tape? Many cats will avoid sticky surfaces.

As for suicide.....I don't think you need to be quite that concerned. A normal cat should be able to survive that fall as long as they land on their feet. That being said, you don't want to intentionally risk it, either. They could be injured. What kind of a surface is at the bottom, where he would land? Can you put some plush carpet down their to cushion the surface?

i haven't tried anything yet because it just started yesterday and kept on doing it, the bottom floor is thick carpet, he fell off of a fridge one time and he ended up at the vet office because he limped, i got two bengals and they're not very coordinated cats, i will check the sticky paws.

If your cat dislikes citrus scents, you might use a product with orange oil to clean and polish it. Not all cats hate citrus, but a lot do so it might be worth trying.

LOL, i read somewhere that the higher the fall, the more chance of survival for the cat?? Weird. Sorry, not meaning to butt in with that, just thought that was kind of odd.

But that is scarey. Please let us know if you've tried anything and if it worked, and how your cat is!

I've heard that too. It's true, to a point. If a cat falls from a somewhat short distance, it doesn't have time to orient itself and is more likely to land on it's back or head. At a certain height (I think it was 5 stories?), they can turn themselves around so that they are able to land on their feet. That's the origin of the saying, while it isn't quite true, that cats always land on their feet.
