Hi
For the full story of the found kitten/young cat I found a few days ago, see thread on "rescued skinny cat from the rain" in caring for strays and ferals..

But this is the ad I am going to put in the paper to see if anyone claims him...
If not, I will keep him.

"Found cream, white and gray young tabby in (blank) area, no ident.,
Must identify cat by colour of feet and tail.
Vet reimbursement necessary upon pickup. Call ***-**** "

Does this sound ok? Too snotty? Too much info?
I say identify the tail as he has an unusually long haired ringed tail like a raccoon...The rightful owner would recognize that its huge compared to his body and very fluffy.

Any changes or comments much appreciated!!

Looks fine... sounds like a cute kitty.

Just got back from a weekend away... beautiful weather for 3 days and a bit of sunburn. But soooo relaxing.

Hope your weekend went well... with the new addition.

IMHO, I'd just say "found tabby" and leave off the colors.

IMHO you could take the "must identify" part off - that is what you'd ask them when they call.

I like it, but I would leave out the Must identify line, no sense giving them any clues! I REALLY like the vet reimbursement necessary! If it is a lost kitty, they will be glad to pay for his expenses.

You rock! I am very proud of you for taking this step! Prayers that no one out there wants him, and he will live happily ever after with you and Lovey!

I would simply say- Found Tabby (age) found around (area location) Identify to claim- seeking vet reimbursement from owner.

I think that Hissy has given you a great outline - simple & direct. If the owners are actively seeking this cat, they'll respond. I have had responses on my "found ad" for the Himmy, just from desperate Siamese owners, hoping against hope that I've found their cat. And I'd definitely leave out the color details - he sounds so gorgeous, I'd like to claim him!! (just kidding
). Please keep us updated!

I agree - no need to give that info about tail etc. That is great. But I do hope you get to keep him as I know how attached you are now. You will just rest easier knowing you tried.

Doesn't sound snotty at all. Don't understand what you mean by vet reimbursement necessary upon pick though. Did you take it to the vet and you mean they must pay you for taking the cat to the vet for them to be able to get their cat back?

Yes, I would want my expenses at least to be covered..Not asking for food, litter money etc...Just the vet bill from today, which will top out at $100 I am figuring.
I don't know if it costs extra to test for FeL-V etc...or anything else he needs or if my vet will just charge me the standard $80.

And if he needs meds, it would obviously be more..But as it is, he looks active and healthy, except for being very skinny...

I did think the vet reimbursement part sounded a bit snotty but then I should think its only natural I would get paid back for that..though I don't know how it would stand in the legal sense..

I will leave out the identifying marks and just keep it short and sweet then.

Also, went back to the area again and did see one "lost kitty" poster but it definitely wasn't him!!!! My heart dropped when I was walking up to the poster and BF was already up at the sign and said "its him!"...What an absolutely unfunny joke, I told him...!

No, it is not at all snotty to ask for vet reimbursement. Every situation is different, but for most people, they would expect to pay for any vet expenses incurred by their pet.

I agree - If they care about the cat they wont mind paying a vet bill to get him back. If the idea of a vet bill stops them from calling then he is better off with you!!

I agree about keeping the description of the cat off of the ad. Are his feet white? If so, that would be a very easy question for someone to answer since, when a cat has feet that are different color than the body, they are usually white.

Well, i just have to say, how responsible and thoughtful of you to take that cat to the vet! What a fine example you are!
