Since it is Memorial Day weekend, I would like to tell about my sweet Molly. Molly was a total joy to my husband and I. She showed up as a stray at my parents house in February of 1996. When we bought our first home in August of 1996, we brought her to live with us. We have no children and she was treated like our daughter, properly spoiled and loved. The vet estimated that she was 3-4 years old when we got her. Molly was the sweetest little "marshmallow". She loved laying in the sun or on her heated pad and spending time with us. The week before Thanksgiving this past November, we felt she wasn't acting right and not eating, so we brought her to the vet. Her abdomen was filling with fluid. We did numerous tests, ultrasounds, had the fluid biopsied, but the vet could never pinpoint her problem. She thinks it was some cancer that just was not being detected by the tests. While we were waiting for the results of the tests, Molly continued to grow weaker, while we held out hope that the results would show something that was treatable. We never received a definitive diagnosis, and one week later, the day before Thanksgiving, we had to make the decision to bring her in to be put to sleep. She was very week at that point, and when we brought her in, the vet said she didn't think she woudl have made it another week. I know we did the right thing for her and we always did what was best for her, but I still feel a sense of failure. I always wonder if I could have done somthing more for her. At the time this happened, our house was up for sale and we moved at the end of December to our new home. Sometimes I think this was Molly's way of telling us she didn't want to move. It upsets both of us that she never got to our new home which is a cat's paradise of lots of windows with wide windowsills and a large yard. With the tears I have streaming down my face right now, I just want you to know that we will always love you and never forget about you! We hope to see you again someday and you are in a place with lots of sunshine!
