We bought a 2004 Hyundai Sonata two months ago and liked it so well, when the 2006 model hit the only Hyundai dealer in town we went right over to see it. They had an automatic $3000 markup on it because they were "rare" at the time, but last week they got in a big shipment and took that off. So we went over after lunch with the intention that if they could get the one we wanted to us with a payment within $100 of what we're already paying, we'd get one.

Well, they didn't. But we fell in love with it... light grey leather interior, every bell and whistle you can think of including heated seats, 6 disk in-dash cd changer/mp3 player, a power sunroof, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, and auto climate control to name a few. After a bit of pacing over it, we made our decision...

There's a black '06 Sonata in our driveway now! He told us it's the first one sold in our city... so, for now, we have a completely unique car!
The payment isn't pretty, but The Car sure is!!!

I'm still wondering how we managed to innocently go out to lunch, and come home several hours later driving a brand new car!!!

Wasn't Hyundai the brand about 15 yrs ago that started with little, inexpensive cars? I have been very amazed at the quality of cars they put out now! Congrats on the new car!

Yep, they were... and people regarded them as cheap for a reason. Some of that reputation has stuck with them although it's no longer the case! This car gets really high ratings with JD Power & Associates. It feels so well made when you sit in it, not cheap at all. They're still under-cutting the competition though, because even with all the Lexus like ammenities it has, it still has a fairly reasonable price tag.

Thanks for the congrats! We were kidding (sortof) about having to think up something for dinner that we'd have to drive out to get, but we ordered pizza delivery
. I guess we'll have to make an excuse to drive all over town tomorrow!!!

Some years ago, my daughter pined for a Mercedes, and she found an older one in surprisingly good appearance and as I recall the price was something less than $1,000, so she bought it and was happy as a lark for about a year until the transmission went out on it and the charge for a new gearbox was a bit over $1,400.

Another Mercedes story concerns my nephew who drove an older Merc, and came over to my house one day, showing me a small idler pulley that did something around the fan belt, and without the pulley the car couldn't be driven, and he said the pulley was bad, and the dealer wanted $80.00 for a new one.

Thinking the pulley looked familiar, I pulled out my "junk" (used) pulley box and started pawing through it for a small idler pulley I had taken from a junker Murray mower a week or so previously, and finding the pulley, compared it to the $80.00 "Mercedes" pulley, and they were IDENTICAL ! !

My nephew grabbed it, wanting to know where I got it and what I wanted for it, and when I told him he could have it for $40.00, he glared at me, stuck the pulley in his pocket and left.

It lasted over a year on his Merc and when it went out, he went to the Lawn Mower Dealer and bought a new one for $6.00.

Congrats! Nice car!

Hubby went out for an oil change for one of our Staurns one day - he called me, I came over to the dealer - and we came back with two new Saturns. So I can understand how it happens!

If you're talking about the hatchback, we actually were on our way to buy a new Mazda that looks similar to it when we bought the '04 Sonata instead because it was half the price, and my sister-in-law's boyfriend owns the dealership we bought it from
My husband likes those sporty car-SUV hybrids (the super charged models, of course), but if it were up to me, I'd get the roomiest luxury car out there... I'm all about comfort, he's all about performance
He only "allowed" this one because it's a V6 with decent horsepower!! (of course I was happy with the 04, he kept pushing to go test drive the new one -more horsepower- and once we did we had to have it)!

The '06 Sonata is supposed to be one of the largest "mid-size" cars out there. The '04 front seats had to be laid back a bit to be comfortable which negated the whole back seat, but that's fixed in this one and the back seat is comfy without having to move the front seat up any. Funny, it looks smaller than the '04 in the driveway but it's bigger inside!

Funny you mention the automatic! From what I hear across the pond it's more common to have a manual, but if you want a manual in this car you'd have to order it! Automatics are more expensive but since I'm all about comfort I won't have a manual. The husband loves manuals (he says more "fun" to drive), but since this one replaces my car, he can just live with the manual Mustang already in the garage!

We were almost ready for bed at midnight last night, looked at each other and said "you wanna go sit in the car?" LOL... so at midnight we went out and sat in it for about 10 minutes, playing with all the gadgets
