Of course they can if they want to. Cats have a high prey drive. Anything smaller than they are that moves is considered lunch!

My cats are indoor/outdoor cats. And once my cat ate a flying cochroach outside!! UGhhhh it sounded so crunchy when it was being eaten. My cats eat lots of bugs. Some bugs they just catch and then dont eat them. Maybe some bugs just don't smell like they would taste good after they have caught them.

Actually as I was typing this reply Garfield caught a house fly on the window and ate it. Must have been good cause now he is lickin' his little lips.

Oh God, my cats LOVE to hunt and eat bugs. I'm actually excited when a bug flies inside because I know it's like the epitome of joy for them, lol. Since they're living indoors, they can use all the entertainment and excitement they can get! So, i'm watching this June bug, Joon bug? Anyway, he pawed at it and then he ate it! It was like Kitty Fear Factor! LOL
