I would get your cat into the vet ASAP like now...Cats can become dehydrated quickly and it can be fatal...
Especially as he has puked so much and its affecting his bowels as well.
Please get him in and let us know.

Thanx for the advice, I jst came back from the vet. He gave him three shots one in the leg (some vitamine)..his leg seems to hurt
..but anyway he said there was something wrong with digestion and he said that we should give him water with sugar if he doesnt eat. He also said it could be coz of the recent vaccination..anyway Biso now is a bit tired and his leg hurts.. i will take him tomorrow and the day after for follow up shots.. i hope he will be fine...but i dunno wat to do if he keeps refraining from eating...

I imagine the sugar water is for dehydration.
I have never heard of that but am no expert.
Thanks for taking him in though.
He was just vaccinated and is having these symptoms since?

Your vet could give you a syringe to use for feeding your cat - and discuss how to safely do so. You just blend water with a canned cat food, to make a puree, pull that up into the syringe and then gently, slowly, push a little of it at a time, so that you cat will swallow it. Your vet could discuss technique and how much to give (number of cc's of the puree) per day OR...you can take canned cat food, and take a bit, roll it into a tiny ball, and gently pop that into the side of the cats mouth (not towards the back, the cat needs to be able to chew this, and you do not want it to choke).

Other tricks, gently smearing just a bit of the food on his lips, so he has to lick it off..this sometimes will jumpstart the appetite a bit.

Keep a good eye that Biso is drinking, you don't want him to become dehydrated.

Thanx u all... Biso is also not eating today and his leg seems to be worse this morning he can barely walk let alone jumping.. he is too lethargic..sleepy and tired
...I will take him to the vet now again for the follow up shot. For some reason i dont trust that vet..he didnt tell me the cause :s and his way of giving shots probably caused all that pain in Biso's back leg ..!! Loveysmummy.. after vaccination he was perfectly fine until yesterday morning..thats when the problem started.. am gonna try the ways Pat and Alex suggested in getting him to eat..
take care everybody..thanx

hey I jst got bak from the vet and he did give me a syringe..but Biso refuses to eat or even smell food.. the syringe doenst work.. smearing abit of food on his lips did not work either..even holding him seems to annoy him.. I still belive that vet is ignorant.. he gave him three shots in his back today.. and his bak seems to hurt now :S.. daamnnn... I went crazy on the vet.. anyway.. am jst gonna hope water and sugar will do Biso good until he gains his appetite.. and oh btw.. Biso is the silent type...but since yesterday...when he moves his leg or something hurts him he looks at me and meows..and when i pet him a bit he purrs
.. i really hope he will be better soon..

I will ask our tsc vet tech to read over this, as this is beyond me. All I can tell you is that not eating can cause a loss of appetite all by itself...so that even if Patrick doesn't want to be fed, my doing so, gently, anyway, leads to him eating on his own again fairly quickly (as happened yesterday).

Your poor guy does sound very sore
...what were these additional shots that he was given?

hey all.. Biso finallyyyyyyyyyyyyy ate today
..he had a large spoon of his regualr food.. and the vet gave him a couple of shots.. (one is vitamines, one anti-diaherrioa and one anti-biotic .. i think !).. he is fine now.. much more energetic but his leg is still kinda numb...btw..when he was real ill yesterday I made sugar water AND normal water available.. now he only drinks sugar water.. he liked the idea :p hehe.. he "tries" to act normal now and run around and stuff.. but still his leg doesnt help much.. the vet did not admit his lack of skill in giving the shot.. but am positive that he gave him the shot in the small muscle in the bak leg when it is supposed to be the large one.. the small muscle now is not much of use to Biso but hopefully everything will be ok once the effect is gone.. tc every1

Good grief your vet seems to get a lot of shots! I would be concerned about that factor above all else because of the possibility of VAS occurring. Did your cat have an injection in his leg and then go sore? Or did he have an injury to his leg first?

Instead of sugar water- I would make up some Pedialyte for your cat to help replace the electrolytes he is missing now. The recipe is easy and you can make it at home. He must be so stressed being hauled off to the "shot vet" so much. Are there any other vets near you in Kuwait, or is he it?

Home-made Pedialyte
  • 1 cup water (boiled then cooled)
  • Small pinch of baking soda
  • Small pinch of Salt
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
Mix all ingredients well. Make sure the mixture has been slightly warmed before feeding to your kitten. The mixture will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Feed 1ml (1cc) every half an hour for the first two hours using a dropper or feeding syringe. Also make sure your kitten is on his tummy and not his back when you feed. Feed very slowly so the fluid does not go down the wrong tube and choke your kitten.

I am glad your cat is eating again. That must be a huge relief. I am not sure what exactly all of the shots were for so it is hard for me to comment. It sounds as if Biso possibly had a reaction to his vaccine but usually these reactions are not as delayed as his was. They usually start the day after the vaccine was given. Is it possible that he may have eaten something? It is normal for their leg to hurt for a couple of days afterwards. Did your vet give him his booster shot while he was so sick? I wouldn't think that would be a good idea.
Next time Biso gets a vaccine I would ask your vet for some anti-inflammatory medication for him. I'm not sure what is available where you are but metacam, tolfedine, and anafen would all work. This would help break any fever and muscle pain that might occur after a vaccine.

Hissy: well.. Biso was walking jst fine before taking the shot in his leg..like I said I think the smaller muscle of leg is jst too numb for him to use.. up to this moment he cant flex it and his back foot is always totally on the ground when he walks..Im gonna look for another hospital soon and take biso there.. but i couldnt do that when he was sick coz there were two days of 'follow-up' shots.. i thought other vets wouldnt kn..

Dr Doolittle: I think u're right.. its more of possible food poisoning..(am guessing coz my vet couldnt tell :s)..i'll tell u why.. here in kuwait in the last couple of weeks the temp started to go up.. (around 40-45 C in daylight).. and because we're not always home.. sometimes we give Biso food in the morning and we leave.. i think wat he used to do is eat most of it.. then take a 2 hour nap and then eat the rest.. that was fine before.. but now coz of the high temp. the food might have gone bad and caused all that trouble.. im paying extra attention to his feeding times now..i'll be home most of the time..

Thanx all.. Hissy..i'll try pedialyte and get bak to u..
btw.. Biso had gum infection a while bak and the vet gave me antibiotic for a week.. and now he still has some..so one week after finishing the first antibiotic..now he wants me to start another one.. i asked why.. he said that i needed to clean Biso's teeth..they're causing the infection.. but :S am not gonna give biso anything b4 he sees another vet..

Take care everybody

Did you check for an impacted bowel? If a cat stops eating and there is trouble with either one or both back legs- it has been symptomatic of an impacted bowel.
