I took in a stray about a month ago, which I found in my neighborhood. The poor thing had 3 kittens, and was skin and bones. I have grown very attached to her and the kittens. However within the last week she has gotten a bad cut on her right hind leg. It looked minor at first, but now it looks like it might be infected. I put some neosporin on it, but I'm not sure that will do the trick. Any suggestions?

I suggest you take her to the vet. Neosporin should be used in small amounts only and only on a vet's recommendation. If it is swollen, red and you can feel heat rising up to meet your palm of your hand when you pass over not on the wound- you cat needs a vet pronto and antibiotics.

Neosporin often doesn't help much for cats. If the area looks infected, it probably needs to be flushed out with antiseptic solution by a vet. It may also need to have a drain inserted. Most vets will also start the cat on antibiotics. Make sure you tell the vet if the cat is still nursing the kittens. If so, the vet may not want to use antibiotics unless the infection gets worse. Good luck! My stray (now my baby) had several abscesses and they aren't much fun.
