Hi all! I haven't posted here since my ferel went through not one but TWO hurricanes last year. Well, that same little man is still hanging around using me as his part-time human.

I am worried about this boy because he has developed a very large wound on the side of his face. It is very abscessed and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. It has been a couple of months now. Quite honestly, I'm surprised he's made it this long.

The problem is, as friendly as he is with me, as soon as I try to actually pick him up he freaks. I have made several (falied) attempts to get him in a Kennel Cab to bring him to the local shelter, but he is just too wild.

I'm wondering how long a wound like this can fester until it eventually heals or or the opposite. I don't know if I can treat it because he is so afraid of being touched on his face. Does anyone have any suggestions or at least tell me what I can expect. Right now the wound is roundish, on his cheek / neck area nd it's about the size of a half dollar, maybe bigger.

Please help. My heart is breaking for him because I know he must be suffering. Thanks.

You're right, it would be best if a vet could treat him but since that's going to be difficult, see if your vet will give you some liquid antibiotic. You could slip it into some stinky/tasty canned food and he will likely not notice. I did this with one of our ferals who had a head wound; I dosed canned cat food with the liq. antibiotic and then made sure he was the one who got that serving. His wound healed up well, he had no problems afterwards.

good luck with your kitty!

Well, I went to the vet on Saturday and he gave me some Clavamox, no problem. I bought him a case of canned food and I have been giving him his meds in 1/2 can of food. He is so happy to be having such a treat! I think he thinks he's special because I won't let anyone else eat his "special" food.

I guess now we just see hwat happens. I just wish there was a way I could treat it topically as well.
Thanks for your suggestions!
