We're expecting our second child (first girl) and are having a hard time choosing a name. We're looking for an old, uncommon name with 6 letters or less for the first name. (I have a long first name and don't want to do that to my daughter.)

We've got a few we're thinking about so I thought that I'd make a poll to see what you guys think.

Also, if you have any suggestions, I'm still open to that. (Maybe your grandmother's names)

BTW - if our son had been a girl he would have been Elizabeth.

Well, Anna isn't all that uncommon in its day, but like you , I LOVE classic names.
I also love Ruby, Lucy, Emma (I wanted to name my daughter Emma but my ex said that was a "fat girls name" ...HIS words, not mine!!!)
I still love that name.

We both agreed on Ariel if we could call her "ARI" exclusively....

Good Luck!! and congrats!

I have always liked Emma but since "Rachel" on Friends named her baby that it has just been over used.

Anna is an old family name and isn't in the top 40 yet so I'm still ok with that. I think Hannah is more popular than Anna right now.

I love the name Grace! When (I hope) I have a girl someday that will be either her first or middle name.

From your poll I chose Laine

I LOVE Grace too but my husband's cousin just named her baby Grace.
Our girls are only going to be about 6 months apart....if only I had gotten pregnant first!!!

My grandmothers were Sarah and Dorothy Grace. I also rather like Claire and Jessie (Jessica) and Emily. From your list, I think Anna speaks loudest to me.

If we ever were to have a daughter she'd be Anna Elizabeth (both are family names). As for grandmothers' names, you might not care for the ones I've got: Lenore, Lorainne, Lyda & Elsie.

I just love the name Camile ... and voted for it in your poll. It just sounds like a wonderful, old Southern name and invokes thoughts of the stunning Camelias in bloom ... I just love the name.

My Grandma names are Dorothy, Nellie, and Sarah. My Mom wanted to name my baby sister Nellie, after my Great Grandma. But Great Grandma said, "Don't you DARE give that child a cows name!" She had hated her name all her life, and at 84 that is a long time!

I like Anna, too. I don't think it is very common now. Here is a link to a baby name site that tells you the popularity of names.

I have a niece named Anne, we always called her Annie when she was little!

I like when first and middle names go together. I am observing a class and two of the girls have that kind of name the first, Sara Grace, I love. The second, Patty Anne, I also like but Sara Grace speaks to me. One of the other girls name is Laura which is also very pretty.

Alexis is my cousin they call her lexi for short. My Great Aunts names are Beatie, Blanche, Lois and Nellie.

I understand about long names because my name is Emmaline, Emily for short.

Hope that helps some.

I like it as well but when I mention it to people I get this blank stare. I'm guessing that that mean they don't like it.

I think right now, I'm torn between Anna Michael (yes Michael - not Michelle, it's my husbands name and this is our last child) or Camile Elizabeth (my grandmother's middle name).

My grandmothers were Mildred Elizabeth & Marian Margaret. On hubby's side they were Oma Olivia & Mercedes.

I love hearing suggestions.....keep 'em coming!

I voted for the name Anna. I think it sounds out very softly and is a sweet name for a girl.
